Status: offline 		Uh, I have never done it before, but like it on girls. So, I decided WTF, and took a clipper and had at it. Dude, the site looks like the exorcist, and it aint really done real well. I usually dont pass out at the sight of blood, but it looks like a pizza faced teen down there now.

We have 'areas' that are harder to work with.

So, guys who shave, what will work, wont and what does not hurt? how to keep the nutsack and so on (taint too, I spose) shaved? What equipment that doesnt work like a Lady Epilator?

Details, formulas, and step-by-step methods. I am not sure that I will ever do that again at this point. Ran out of toilet paper and alum last night, and I had a whole crate of that shit.

Status: offline 		Never use "shaving powder" down there unless you have a serious congenital suntan. On many of us white boys it makes the skin purple for weeks.

Status: offline 		First of all, never go from shag carpet to hardwood floors in a single go, it only leads to blood and tears (as you've seen).

If you're just looking to trim up a bit, get an actual beard trimmer, not something for a haircut. Smaller blades, more guard positions, easier to maneuver. Star with a high guard level, make many passes, and keep adjusting down until you reach a good length.

But if you wan to go full shorn, Reddit has a guide with plenty of tips.

Definitely trim first.

Adding soothing cream afterwards is a good idea, and watch out for ingrown hairs - tweeze and fight the epilator fear.

After having read that, if you are now more open to other forms, you could try waxing. Although it is like an epilator, hair removal is a lot faster - swoosh, swoosh and it's all gone with just a teensy weensy bit of pain perhaps (though be aware that there is potential to lose skin, and chunks of flesh if you have strong hairs). Perhaps go to a salon for that. A good one...

Status: offline 		bo has kept himself clean shaven down there since he was a teenager or thereabouts. In the three years since we have been together I've never seen even a nick. Nor razor burn. One of his new tattoos is over his pubic bone, he used wax over it for a while but kept getting bumps from ingrown hair.

He's sleeping now and has a busy day ahead of him, so I'll have to get the information for you later today. He swears by a specific shaving gel and shaver(s).

Edited to add:
We also use a specific, and inexpensive, numbing cream to help minimize pain from waxing and piercing and getting tattoos.

Fuck. I thought this was actually about mowing a (green/grass) lawn.

I haven't mowed a lawn/paid a personal bill/balanced a checkbook for 39 years....love my lawn mowed though.

(I clearly stepped in to something not intended for me).

Status: offline 		If this is anything like female landscaping, I highly recommend constant upkeep. First removal is the WORST (and recommend having a pro do it). After that...every few days, shave... I have gotten to the point that I can use Nair for the Shower weekly and then get a pro wax once every few months.

Status: offline 		Ok i used to shave for a bit and found it is much better to just keep it neatly trimmed unless you are willing to shave as regularly as needed to prevent stubble. Especially in the summer months or if you live in a warmer climate, stubble itches and causes irritation and in hot weather that can be very uncomfortable.
But if you feel you must shave the area i would suggest the Gillette MachIII and a Gillette shave gel for sensitive skin.
Using that combo i rarely had an issue with razor burn or nicks as long as i was careful.

Most of us do not consider a brush hog to be an appropriate clipper.

We have 'areas' that are harder to work with.

I recently experienced a shearing at the hands of a professional...Rain forest thick to baby butt smooth in one afternoon

Status: offline 		Myself, I just use a razor with women's beauty soap - you know, the stuff with moisturizer in it. The same way I shave my chin, actually. A bit of soothing-type aftershave afterwards- but only a bit. And I've discovered: the key thing is to avoid rushing about after you've done the 'surgery'. Sit down and take it easy. Get sweaty and you'll give yourself a sore rash that does *not* look suave. You need at least half an hour for your skin down there to calm down.

Status: offline 		I have actually found that womens razors with hydrating shaving GEL not shaving cream, has to be Gel works the best. Only if you maintain every couple days. If there is long hair, beard/mustache trimmer to shorten in up then shave. Also I have better luck in the shower with hot water, it seems to soften the hair.

Status: offline 		I don't know if this applies to men's as well, but I found that a good old fashion straight edged razor is the only way to go to go from a full bush to a desert without nicks and razor burn on lady parts.

Oh and I second using gel instead of shaving cream.

Status: offline 		I use electric barber's hair trimmers to get close, then copious amounts of shave cream and a careful slow 3 or 4 blade throw-away. Never had a drop of blood or any discomfort. It can get quite a bit shaggy too if I let it go.

Oh yes, I too thought this was about the yard and so I didn't respond. I do NOT cut nature's outside grass anymore...did it for 35 years. That was enough.

Status: offline 		Don't be too freaking cheap to get professional wax jobs done if you don't go the permanent hair removal route with your lady.

It also makes it so-o-o much easier to maintain in between.
(Although my waxgirl goes apeshit when I tamper with her handiwork between appts.)

Like subtrannyeva noted, use hair removal cream, but be careful not to apply it directly to especially sensitive skin areas.
(Other than the anal aperture, men don't have to be concerned about this as much on male pubes.)*
It works much better than shaving cream or gel, along with a razor.
