Sanity said sarcastically "Right, they are not in the same league as Afghanistan"

My point is Afghanistan had no part in 9/11. Financially or otherwise.

Incidently most of the current ISIS fighters hail from the Gulf States, supposed friends of the US.

I have touched on the current fighting between Sunni and Shia in the other thread. The Gulf States favour the Sunnis, Iran favours the Shia. Given that in the Iraqi elections that the majority Shia voted in a Shia government, and the Sunnis got marginalised, the current situation is hardly a shock. Bush and his cronies overlooked the fact most 9/11 perpertrators came from Saudi, as does most of the funding for Sunni insurgegents, be it AQ or ISIS.

Really? You're serious? Would destroying the economy of the US qualify as "this"?

You are aware that we lost control of hundreds of SAMs in Iraq and Libya? In 2002 I stood on a hill 20 miles from Hartsfield and counted 11 visible airliners.

There are thousands and thousands of RPGs in every conflict in the world. I made notes for a couple of years of the oil refineries and chemical plants sitting within 100 yards of interstates....

Think it would be hard to smuggle the weapons in? Two words. Drugs. Kids.

Blow up a few dams at the same time as the airline and refinery attacks.....

No WMD required.....

Better run then. Hide grandma in the shed. Stock up on granola and jerky.

Or: can you really pick up a turd by the clean end?

Yeah

Thats why Barack called Afghanistan "the right war"

My second point is: they will (again) attack us.

Well duh.....so did I, and Bush was right to invade to go after AQ. He fucked that up too by letting OBL slip away but no biggie eh !

Nice to see you admit your faults....... Care to point out how the Shia were involved in 9/11, one reason for Iraqs invasion.

FR and he was right even without the bullshit banner.

AQ is in decline, different Sunni groups with different agendas have since been formed.

Why invade Afghanistan then, if they were so completely innocent as you claim above. Just to get one man?

You do realize that al-Qaeda is more than just one man, don't you. Sure, Barack beat his chest like Tarzan when the Seals got bin Laden, but that neither won nor lost the war despite all of Obama's premature crowing and bragging

People are facing mass beheadings by al-Qaeda forces in Iraq as we speak, and women there are being told that if they go outside without good reason they will be severely punished (how do "liberals" support this?)

All the best parts of the Koran are being brought to bear on the population Bush once made safe

Its almost as bad now as it was when Saddam was in charge there

Sure... And when you call a leftist a "liberal" or a "progressive" that in itself makes them better people too, right

Tkman117 -> RE: Iraq (6/12/2014 5:38:42 PM)

Well, considering "leftist" aren't restricting women's rights, gay rights, engaging in anti-intellectualism, committing act's of terror against the government (Bundy ranch, Las Vegas shooting, etc), it sure as hell makes them better people than the people you affiliate with, no matter what you call em.

We didn't exactly attack Afghanistan. We toppled the Taliban because they were harboring AQ. Had the Taliban been okay with us coming in to get AQ, they'd likely still be in power today.

Just like we didn't go into Iraq to beat Iraq in a war, but to topple Saddam Hussein.

OBL was a Saudi. He was connected to the royal family. He was no longer a Saudi by the time he masterminded 9/11, though, being an outcast of both his own family and his home country. Is it really a big stretch to accept that he might still have influence with the peoples he grew up among? If an American in Guatemala attacked Mexico, would that be the US attacking Mexico? Would it be an amazing shock if many of those who planned and took part in the attack were also Americans?

but what should we do when Iraq attacks us?

Try not to giggle.

Maybe we could let France and the UK take care of the "light work." They are, afterall, bound to defend any attacked NATO country, and they seem to be a might bit closer to Iraq.

Once Iraq has been sent to the corner buttsore (and not in a good way), we figure out what allowed Iraq to attack us and close that hole in our defense system.

What allowed iraq to attack the u.s. was nothing more than the delusional ranting of a moronic post.

Ignorant unsubstantiated bullshit.

Start by educating yourself.
