I agree with what you wrote and I want to add that many times when a newbie asks a question in the general discussion area the thread gets flooded with posts about what's orthodox bdsm and what's not. I think if someone is "just kinky" or mostly wants to spice things up in the bedroom, even if he's genuine in his curiosity, gets discouraged from posting and partecipating.

This is true. Newbies start threads here for several reasons. 1. To drive traffic and attention to their profile on the other side. 2. They have lurked for a while, know what will incite a cyber "riot" and purposely start a thread just to watch the show. 3. They aren't really "newbies", they are using sock profiles. See #2. 4. They genuinely have a question, stay active in their thread, respond well to differing opinions, and sometimes become regular posters.

Now I'm sure there are a ton of other motivators for newbies posting. But the majority fall into one of the above.
So now I ask you...what is better? To have new threads ignored, with one or two polite-ish responses and then the thread dies because everyone KNOWS they are trolling? Introductions that NEVER get anyone to respond? That is exactly where the message boards are right now. It's boring as hell.

Or snark and attitude thrown at #2 and #3, a bit of brusque guidance about the Forums for #1, and then pages of participation for #4 ???

When the people with outspoken opinions, that don't have any interest in posting in P&R, but have strong ties to the Forums, leave the site...the drama stops on the regular boards. The downside is that the interesting conversations leave with them. You can't have both. The P&R crowd is just business as usual. No more, or less, than before. It's just more noticeable now, because everything else has died.

Edit to add content more relevant to the OP

one and the other, ignoring the trolls and being more polite and less judgmental to those that ask for advices but are not interested in what's "kosher bdsm".

I know better than to poke my nose into P&R...I have my own opinions about both and I have been taught 3 things...never fuck with a man's religion, politics or his belly button.

Besides, my libido is low due to medicine. I only keep my profile active for friends to contact me.

Okeley-dokeley then. Happy full moon on Friday the 13th. I'm glad I got a good night's sleep.

First off, traffic in the P&R section is way down too, so it isn't like we are stealing all the participants who used to post upstairs in the main section. I don't know if the site is dying, sick, or just needs to try a new toothpaste and cologne, and frankly, I don't figure it is my problem to figure out.

I participate in the forums because I like to engage on issues, and I wandered off from the main section when it became obvious that the views of a sadistic switch with a SAM wife and a primary relationship dynamic of "married," didn't meet the criteria for the twue to have a conversation. Besides, how many times can you tell people asking the very same questions the very same answer, before your fingers fall asleep? Especially when you have to bite your fingers because the OP is dumber than a bag of hammers, and you can't say that?

Why do I hang around a kink site to mostly talk politics and current affairs? Because the fact that it is a kink site brings in a really diverse group of people, and I like the mix.

Yes, could you pass along this suggestion to ResidentSadist because there's some good stuff in slightly older threads I've read. Gotta set these young'uns straight (kinky-straight, that is) who don't know their arse from a hole in the ground. With an influx of more coming on the scene daily.

Eulero, as much as you would like to be a one-man show with zero accountability, precepts exist for a reason and for a purpose. They become a reference point or framework to work within or else a launching pad from which you and your partner can consensually can take off on your own individuated paths and make synergistically radical departures if need be. I say this because I see too many young male subs operating from a self-defeating personal agenda that won't fly with the Domme partner they seek in the name of submission which they only give lip service to.

Perhaps it's because BDSM hasn't change that much in the past 10 years and the topics are pertty much all talked out. Politics on the other hand . . . if you had told me we were gonna have a black president, I wouldn't have believed you. So politics has fresh meat for topics, BDSM doesn't.

This....on top of that many of us are in a happy relationship or not actively seeking and so less interested about the bdsm topic itself....if it would not be for a handful of folks on here, I would not be on here anymore (and will leave at some point I guess)...so I also think that for some folks the bdsm part is less interesting these days than other parts of the forum

So, if I am to understand the general feeling here, it is that BDSM is stale and worn out and politics is exciting and fresh. Got it.

That would be a gross mischaracterization.
There are people who have no real understanding of politics but have an agenda based on their party affiliation. They go to the "dungeon" not to discuss what they are ignorant about but rather to call their opponents names. There are only about a half dozen of them so it is not too difficult to navigate around them.

And it's summer in the northern hemisphere. So we're more likely to be out and about. I also think posting goes along with the weather. November in New England, excluding Thanksgiving week, will get more people staying in and chatting than July 4th with beaches and barbecues.

Naaa, it is the same BDSM type of discussion applied to political news. Starts as a discussion then devolves to a few insisting their view is "one twu way" and none other is based in reality. <snark snark>
