I know that approval ratings aren't exactly the same as "most admired", but here is a graph from the Wall Street Journal showing the approval ratings, by year, from each of the last twelve presidents, which may be a bit of an indicator as to why Clinton was most admired. What I find most interesting is that the only president that had a higher approval rating when he left office than when he took office, was Clinton. Reagan did nearly as well with only a slightly lower rating when he left office. Most of the rest had dramatically lower ratings when they left. http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/info-presapp0605-31.html

Bill Clinton is the most admired president over the last 25 years, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg Survey.

Forty-two percent of respondents picked Clinton as the president they admired the most.

He was followed by President Barack Obama at 18 percent, George W. Bush at 17 percent and his father, George H.W. Bush, at 16 percent.

I did not see that coming. Interesting.

so "none of the above" was not given as an option, huh? cuz that's the answer I would have given.. [;)]

Since the question was a matter of relative approval, "none of the above" would be an illogical response.

Should we be surprised that in a four way race, Democrats told the first two spots by a wide margin? 60% to 36%?

Or that when those Democrats were in office, they focus their efforts on the United States of America rather than Iraq?

Had the Feds not ramped up spending as much as they did, W's addition to the National Debt would have been much, much smaller.
So, if the dog hadn't stopped to take a shit he would have caught the rabbit?[8|]

It's true - we did. My overwhelming thought at the time was 'Who gives a toss? How does this affect his ability to be president?' I couldn't instantly grasp the logic of the view that 'if he'll lie about the small things, he'll lie about the big things'.

And there's at least some truth in the view that our senior politicians are porking away from home, too. Hell's bells, even our ex PM John Major - despite having about half the sexual allure of a dishcloth - was rogering the minister Edwina Currie on the quiet.

Why 25 years? Because Clinton coming in 2nd to Reagan just wouldn't fit the template, now would it? And how bad would it look if Obama came out worse than Carter?

Twenty-five years is also one of those intervals that prompt pausing: silver anniversaries, 25th reunions, and so forth. It's possible, I realize, that the interval was chosen specifically to yield a result, but I'm reluctant to assume that without some grounds for doing so, particularly since the WSJ was one of the poll-taking partners.

I think so.

I guess is you limit it to the last 25 years, Slick Willy would have to be the least objectionable. He did his main screwing of the constituency when he was a governor then just went for white house staff, for the most part, after becoming POTUS.

I haven't admired a President since George Washington.

I wonder if most voters really vote like I do. Check of the guy who seems to be the least bent of the crooks on the ballot.

I still think it would be useful if politicians wore patches on their jackets like NASCAR drivers so you could see which sponsors had bought them. <evil grin>

I would not have cared if he had gotten blow jobs from every female in the white house. That is his wifes problem, not mine. I did care that he announced to the country that oral sex didn't actually count as sex and anyone could do it. Kids have enough problems growing up without the president filling their heads with bullshit. I remember one of my social worker friends being shocked when she asked one of her underage clients why he thought it was ok and he replied that "the president says it doesn't count as sex". She came to me and asked if he really had said that and I reminded her of the outcry when it happened. She hadn't realized he had said that and thought the only reason everyone was upset was because he got a blowjob. Now I am sure there were a lot of people that were only upset at the idea of the idiot cheating on his wife, but there were a lot more that didn't like the idea of him teaching kids his own warped view of what sex is and what isn't. And yes, a lot of them also didn't like the idea of teaching kids it's ok to lie as long as it's just a little lie.

Least admired -

George W. Bush has higher favorability than Barack Obama

It will be interesting to see how this changes after he leaves office. Reagan's approval ratings struggled throughout his presidency, even hitting 41%, but now that he's long gone, people focus on the image instead of his record, and regard him highly.

This is one of those half truths and whole lies you are prone to post. Yes he said blow jobs do not constitute sex. You lie when you say he said anyone could do it...see what a little punk liar you are.

Kids have enough problems growing up without the president filling their heads with bullshit.

As if you know any kids who actually listen to what any president says.

I remember one of my social worker friends being shocked when she asked one of her underage clients why he thought it was ok and he replied that "the president says it doesn't count as sex". Since you have a habit of making up stories to suit your agenda we are going to call bullshit on this plate of turds.

Now I am sure there were a lot of people that were only upset at the idea of the idiot cheating on his wife, but there were a lot more that didn't like the idea of him teaching kids his own warped view of what sex is and what isn't.

Can give us a list of these imaginary people you think agree with your moronic bullshit.

And yes, a lot of them also didn't like the idea of teaching kids it's ok to lie as long as it's just a little lie.

Once again you are lieing but what the fuck it has added to your post count and you have been able to show your ignorance once again.

Unless one's approval for each is equally non-existent, in which case "none of the above" is the only logical response. ;)

If that was the case, and the response, they did not 'participate' in the survey. That is how that sort of thing works.

The economy roared along fairly well under W until the Democrats' Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debacle screwed it up for everyone

Alas, if W had listened to Greenspan, the "reckless and irresponsible tax cuts" would have saved our butt instead of ballooning the deficit again as under Reagan.
I hope we see the day when silly spin gives way to true fiscal responsibility the conservatives used to hold.

What does the tax revenue data suggest, though? The real deficit problem W created, was in his allowance of ridiculous spending increases. Had the Feds not ramped up spending as much as they did, W's addition to the National Debt would have been much, much smaller.

And if the nutjob had not ramped up spending and not cut taxes?

And not fought two horribly expensive and useless wars?
