There was an older thread, going back a few years and the OP came back and posted an update.
Thread is locked after one person responded to her update.

As someone who posted on the thread when she originally began it, I was glad to see an update.
So often people post and we never learn how the solution resolves, if it ever does.

I can see locking it if someone came along out of the blue to post advice 3 years after the fact, but since it was the OP, maybe locking necro-threads could have a notable exception: if the OP posts an update.
Context is everything. [;)]

That was my thought, it honestly doesn't make sense why it was locked seeing how the OP is the one that dug it up and updated it...

I was told that the OP, posting an update has been allowed for quite some time.

That's the thing, she did post an update. DS posted then the thread was locked with the comment on not posting on necro threads and starting a new one..

Yeah, I caught that. I just think that because there are two different user names, the Moderator might have been a little over zealous and not noticed it was an update?

Yeah, it is the exact same name.. so have no clue why the mod locked it, just seems to go against what I thought was the new rule that has been in effect for a short while now on allowing necro threads.

I'm not sure what thread y'all are talking about, or which Mod locked it, but I was under the same impression and I'm sure it was stated in a post somewhere.

No clue what we're talking about but if the same poster posted to a thread using 2 different accounts that's a no-no designed to stop the sock parade.

That isn't in play here:

The thread in question is 3 years old.
The OP came back and posted an update on the 3rd page.

I don't care if they are bringing back the no necro-thread rule.
I care that:
A) we weren't informed
B) there isn't an exception for updates.

I am not posting this here to put any of the moderators under a microscope.
I put it here because I thought it worthy of a discussion.

I'm with Angelika on this, was mostly curious as to why the thread was locked and if in fact the old rule was re-instated and we have yet to be informed of it....

I hope they will come back and unlock the thread. They are all new mods, I would imagine, and hopefully this was just a wrong decision that can be fixed. I just read the entire thread in question and it is a great read, even with the sadness.

Thanks for letting me know which thread it was, it bothers me that the threads been locked as having the update in the same thread gives context and it sounds like the OP could use some community support.

Please understand that most moderators or staff, are people that you all know. You may not like them as much as you have liked others, but until you know their intent, you cannot be fair if you expect more of them than you would those you liked better.

It takes time to learn so very much and I have yet to see any other moderator team be put to the test as harshly as this team has been. As we clean many things up, reorganize and try to make these forums fair, consistent and a welcoming place with certain places to get a little wild, that no one and I do mean not one, no other team prior could manage it all as quickly as many seem to expect it.

What I find interesting are some of the teachers in this particular lesson. Our new moderator made a mistake not knowing all the steps to a process that hadn’t yet been learned. The lesson is the process, but also that some will take public a mistake and harshly expect their answers.

With the same intent to do what is best for these forums for the members, I will do what is best for my team as well. If you have a question, you may email me and it may take me a bit to get to you, but as long as everyone is reasonable, I get to my mail as quickly as I can unless I have had equipment failure or overwhelming challenges here.

We can build or we can destroy. Which is it? I know our choice and we will protect it with all we have despite the lessons.
