To hear the young complain about age discrimination in the lifestyle!!  There is also discrimination of the elder.  IMHO age is a case of mind over matter.  If they both don't mind, it doesn't matter.

litleone8620 -> RE: age vs. experience (7/12/2006 3:37:37 AM)

I never expected every one of my posts to be commented on. That would be arrogant.

The fact still remains that experience plays a role in whether or not a person's opinions or advice are taken into consideration. That's what the OP is talking about.

And with experience you automatically think of age. That concept is practically pounded into our head at an early age: respect your elders. Why? Because they have life experience. They've already been through what you're going through; they had to walk to school 7 miles uphill both ways with no shoes.

People get overlooked all the time because of their age, and it doesn't just happen in the lifestyle.

why is it that when someone looks at your age that they automatically assume that you have no brain, no experience and no concept of life and its intricate  meanings and subtlties. am i the only one that has this issue or is it a trend of ingnorance and disbelief

SSSSSSSSSSShhhhhhhhh child at 23 you have no idea what you are talking about.
Just kidding.
I think age is nothing its all in experience and maturity.

and like missturbation said .... age has nothing to do with someone who shows a sense of understanding and experience .....

I have learned that age doesnt always indicate more experience, and experience doesnt always make for a better pet. I prefer novices, who dont have a lot of things that they have been taught that their former owners and keepers have liked that I dont care for.  The more exprienced a boy is, the more he seems to think he will know what I want before I say it... and the more those assumptions annoy me usually.
Sometimes, lack of expeirence, no matter what age, is a nice thing.

When I was out searching for a dom.  These same issues came to be over and over again.  I had just broken up with my dom of ten years.
I knew what I wanted in life.  Just didn't know how to go about finding him.
The more I searched for people in my age range the more submissive they seemed to become.  Or the more set in their ways where no one could be who they wanted them to be in their own minds.
After a couple of year's of searching it came to me that I needed someone with less experience than the people I had been choosing to speak with.
My dom only had 4 year's and one submissive prior to me in the scene.
We're now  at 7 1/2 years and an old married couple later.

Less experience really is nice at times.

*Kneels in front of Tamer in reverence* My apologies, oh wise one. Funny how the whole school year somehow managed to have snow storms.....

LotusSong -> RE: age vs. experience (7/13/2006 1:20:56 PM)

All I can say is that I wish I were 17 again..... I knew it ALL back then..

SweetPosession -> RE: age vs. experience (7/13/2006 1:35:51 PM)

I have the same problem, but I tend to forgive the offense because with age generally comes wisdom. Also, most teenages are idiots. Being only 18, I encounter a lot of them, and I have very few friends my own age. My general method is to find people who think of me as a person, and judge me by my personal merits rather than my age. Some people are seemingly incabable of doing this. They are not my friends.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: age vs. experience (7/13/2006 2:18:35 PM)

This is how I go about initial impressions of anybody. If a person goes on about any quality, that 99% of the time in my experience means they are lacking it. So, someone who harps about how strong they are is generally weak, someone who goes on about their experience is generally less experienced than they'd like you to believe, someone who flaunts their wisdom is more likely than not foolish. It seems to work that way.

Is this a age thing, it seems the younger a person is the more desperate they tend to want to be viewed as wise, intelligent, and experienced. So, more than not age is a indicator. Is it universal, no. I've ran into my share of old people that were completely fool of shit. But people do tend to learn something(hopefully) as they grow older, and learn from mistakes(hopefully). There are some young that are wise, intelligent, and experienced, but at the same time these people usually don't go around announcing it. They're to busy living.

acttualy Im only 22 and I havent really had this problem maybe cuz im a female sub and a lot of Doms like a newbie so they can shape them

No matter if it is your first Dom or your 25th (i doubt i could handle that many in a lifetime) you are going to be shaped to His liking.   Even someone with mega years experience will have to undergo some retraining with a new Dom.   They aren't the same and all are normally going to require different types of behavior.
In response to the OP---i think it depends on quality versus quanity.   Someone with say three years into the lifestyle could have gotten more out of it than someone with 25 years experience.   Example---a person who married or lived with their Dom for 10 years but allowed vanilla to over take the relationship for those ten years and didn't actively participate.
   Just my thoughts.

majeldrakov -> RE: age vs. experience (7/14/2006 3:30:15 PM)

from that point of view i would agree but from a dominant point its differant

majeldrakov -> RE: age vs. experience (7/14/2006 3:31:56 PM)

thank you for that

majeldrakov -> RE: age vs. experience (7/14/2006 10:13:46 PM)

thank you for being one of the few people to actualy judge some one on who ad what they actually are instead of assuming

majeldrakov -> RE: age vs. experience (7/14/2006 10:21:23 PM)

first i want to thank all of those that have posted and made comments to this thread, i was pleasently suprissed by the outcome. i must admit that it seems there are more understanding people out there than i realized, now my wuestionis this why does it always seem the arrogant ones seem to make there presence known more than those of quality and value. i persoanlly think that its a shame, but i have realized that there is a valuable lesson to learn and that its a test of patience and perseverance to be the betterperson and to continue to improve myself to not become jaded. so again thank you all
