Poor woman.

I have to say: they really can't do the letter 'l' out there. I had a Japanese GF who was very, very bright. Despite her brains she couldn't say 'l's or 'r's properly, and nor could she even hear the difference. She shared a house with me and a bunch of males when we were all students. We'd have endless fun saying things like, 'Would you rike a cup of tea, Noriko?' - pronouncing the 'r' in 'rike' really strongly - and she'd never grasp that we were taking the P. Cruel and childish of us, really, I'll leadily admit now.

had a professor in college who studied the differences in the forked wings of fruit flies, but forked always seemed to pronounce as more fucked than forked....

Then there is the left/right brain dichotomy... thinking of the Japanese neighbor I had in college that could NOT pronounce "L" but could sing it quite well.
