While in Southern Italy he said the Mafia is excommunicated. Does this pope want to be assassinated?

Well, I guess that means organized crime will no longer be a problem for the world.

Who's next on his list to feel Frankie's wrath?

I guess the Pope can thank the Republicans for breaking the back of La Costra Nostra via their union busting efforts.[:D]

Maybe they'll be unexcommunicated if they just keep going to church long enough. Better to let them in than try to keep them out, eh? At least you're being consistent.

If he has his way, there will always be plenty of mafia members to excommunicate.

The Associated Press reports:

“Francis told members of a drug-enforcement conference meeting in Rome on Friday that even limited attempts to legalize recreational drugs ‘are not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but they fail to produce the desired effects.’”

I guess he's never played Whack-A-Mole.

Wouldn't a wise, benevolent, and tolerant person say pretty much the exact opposite? Something like, "PROHIBITION is not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but it HAS FAILED to produce the desired effects."

If drug abuse is seen as a sin (and some might hold that position, based on the body being the temple stuff), then, no. I can only assume the Catholic Church's stance on the recreational use of current list of illegal drugs. Thankfully, the Catholic religion isn't really a theocracy anywhere outside of the Vatican. It does make one wonder how the current list of US politicians claim both to be Catholic and support abortion. That would seem to me like the two can not coexist.

FullCircle -> RE: The Pope excommunicated the mafia!?! (6/22/2014 10:15:30 AM)

This only confirms to me that the pope had until recently been communicating with the mafia. They probably have shares in the catholic church.

MissShey -> RE: The Pope excommunicated the mafia!?! (6/22/2014 10:20:30 AM)

I thought the Catholic church and the mafia were one and the same thing. He's excommunicated himself...?

One reflection on that very topic:

What consistancy?

You admit to being so ignorant that you have to make assumptions about what someone thinks about something you want to disagree with them on????holy fucking shit that is the stupidist thing I have ever seen you say. Have you ever considered educating yourself about a subject before you pontificate on it?
Which U.S. Catholic politicians support abortion? Or is this another of your assumptions?

They'll be fine! The Pope is still going to allow priests to shake down the parishoners and collect their protection money when they pass the offering plate at Mass.

Good point, but it seems to me that a Catholic would have to make at least two leaps of faith to come to that conclusion: all use is abuse, and wine is not a drug.

Musicmystery -> RE: The Pope excommunicated the mafia!?! (6/23/2014 7:17:40 AM)

One might suspect the Pope feels he has higher muscle than the mafia.

servantforuse -> RE: The Pope excommunicated the mafia!?! (6/23/2014 11:21:32 AM)

hunter, Joe Biden would be first on that list.

altoonamaster -> RE: The Pope excommunicated the mafia!?! (6/23/2014 11:36:58 AM)

protection money is that the 28% they make you give

Maybe the Mafia could call them "tithes" and all will be forgiven?

Maybe they don't support abortion, maybe they support the right of people to choose for themselves. It is funny that the same church that is so hepped up on making abortion illegal, while it says that capital punishment is against church teaching, leaves that up to Catholics to decide for themselves...
