Thought this was an interesting read (although as someone who enjoys casual sex...admittedly biased).

I found the writing to be a not so great mixture of trying to impersonate a 'serious approach', with all kinds of taxonomy and so forth, while obviously being written to a certain extent to a lay audience. I didn't find it particularly enlightening, casual sex is like anything else, depending on the person and the situation there is nothing wrong with it is what the article is saying and I agree with that. The problem with casual sex is when that is all a person is capable of, where they cannot have an emotional relationship and simply go looking for sex, when it is a crutch or a way of dealing with things...but then again, that is true of alcohol, BD/SM, porn, Romance books, etc, if something gets in the way of normal functioning it can be a problem.

One thing I read recently did say that with casual sex, that apparently with women it generally does not satisfy them as much as it does men, that the old thought that women need to be emotionally attracted to the person is for many true, which doesn't surprise me. While I have known women who were players, who basically played the field and bested many men I know like that (interestingly, I have met straight, gay and bisexual women who fit this mold:). All in all, I suspect that if the person likes it and otherwise can function okay, there should be nothing wrong with it. And yes, despite all the claims of neutrality, many psychologists are burdened down by all kinds of moralistic or other tripe, feminist psychologists can have it in for trans folks, the religious try and shape what they tell patients, not by what their training says, but what their religious belief says (despite the fact they aren't supposed to do that), they have all kinds of biases, and some are downright prudish. Go into some shrinks and tell them you are into BD/SM, and you can get all kinds of crap about lack of self worth, violent tendencies, misogyny, you name it.

Yes it is very interesting and not surprising at all. Nothing at all wrong with play, we all play and we all play about as much as we can.

I enjoy living vicariously through my swinger friends with their interesting tales.
They seem pretty happy and secure. Admittedly I'm possessive.

I am always skeptical when something uses the old "studies have shown" cliché.

That was an interesting read though, thanks for sharing.

I would think much of what they said to be obvious.
If you are authentically predisposed towards something, then it should be apparent that it will be positive for you.

The other interesting point is that they solely queried college students.

I would think doing a study of 50somethings would yield entirely opposite results.

Because from 18 to 22 is when you should be sowing your wild oats and exploring yourself.
