I'm on a restricted diet for the time being. I'm having no problem coming up with tasty meals and I'm managing to resist the junk food but OH MY GOD I am so sick of only drinking water.

I like water but I'm dying for something with a bit of flavour. I normally drink sugar free squash all day long.

I'm not allowed added sugars or artificial sweeteners, or anything with more than a tsp or two of sugar per glass (so fruit juices are out). I'm also lactose intolerant.

I'm brewing some water kefir but it's going to be three days minimum. I can have peppermint tea but it's a bit warm and it tastes gross if you chill it.

Any splendid ideas or do I just need to suck it up and get used to it?

"I normally drink sugar free squash all day long."

I'm here to tell you.....sugar free squash is fucked up.

Thanks Lookie. Unfortunately a lot of my diet has been fucked up, which is most likely why I'm in this situation.

Last time I tried Stevia I found it to be extremely bitter, did I get a bad batch or is it my tastebuds? I wasn't using large amounts.

I'll have a look at those celestial teas, they look lovely. I'll have to check the ingredients to see which ones I'm allowed.

Ensure type drinks would be a great idea because it's hard to get enough calories but when I looked up the ingredients the list was so long I couldn't even begin to figure out whether I could consume them.

Never would have occurred to me to put marmite in tomato but I can see how that would work.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

The strawberry and raspberry teas are usually sweet without adding sugar.

Stevia can be bitter.
One of the components is; there are versions that process that component out.

You can do a search for non-bitter stevia.

Can you find out if erythritol is allowed?
Unlike many so called sugar alcohols this one is fairly close to having a zero impact on blood sugar and generally doesn't cause intestinal issues.
If that isn't allowed you may want to check into monk fruit or Lo Han Guo (same thing) extract.
I like coconut sugar.
If you are allowed small amounts of table sugar that may work for you.

Could you make smoothies with non-dairy 'milks'?
Almond, soy, hemp and rice may be options depending on what is allowed.
I don't know if berries are allowed but they tend to be lower in sugar than many fruits.

Go old school
equal parts
Cider Vinegar
Water
Add a quarter to half part honey,
Add to taste: mint, and some citrus (squirt of either lemon or lime)

The history prof. that told me about this called it "Persian Gator Ade" but it was carried in canteens throughout the classical world from Xerxes to Rome. And, it rather tastes good

In....ter....est....ing.........

Although I'm wondering if the honey is prohibited...is it an outlawed sweetener?

That would all be contingent on WHY a sweetener is prohibited.

Physicians often knee jerk say you can't use ANY sugars when you are diagnosed with diabetic condition. But, if you talk to a biochemist they will say that using artificial sweeteners decreases insulin production over time and exacerbates diabetes.
