smileforme50 -> Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/6/2014 8:49:07 AM)

Here's a question for everyone. Does someone's CM screen name influence whether not you look at their profile more closely or if you read and respond to an email from them?

I've noticed that if a "Dom's" screen name seems especially crude to me....like if a guy calls himself something like "CuntBeater" that just turns me off completely and I usually won't even read any messages from them.

Anything with "crazy", "insane", "Lord/Masterofwhateverthefuck" or penis-centric is like a warning beacon.

Yeah, of course.

If someone's name is clever, or makes an allusion to something that I like (a song from a band that I've loved, a reference to a character from a book I've loved, etc) then I'm absolutely going to loo at their profile and there is a good chance I'll talk to them whether we are in any way compatible or not. Interesting people are rare.

Names that allude to some kind of play or something in the lifestyle normally don't do anything for me one way or the other. Occasionally, they are deal breakers. Anyone who has "stern" or "serious" in their name is off the table, no questions asked. I already have a mother, not looking for another one online.

Oh hell yes. The chosen user name is the first and fastest screening tool. I wish it weren't against TOS; I'd start a thread for the "winningest" user names we've heard from [:D]

LOL....yeah I know....I was going to give a small sampling of some of the more offensive names I had seen recently....if it weren't for the TOS. Of course after I posted my message I thought "Oh crap....I hope there isn't really someone who has "CuntBeater" as his screen name..."

Exactly.

Of course, it tells a lot about the person.

<snip>

Absolutely, no question about it. I wonder what some of these guys are thinking and whether they realize what a total turn-off many of these names are, that they've shot themselves in the foot at the starting gate.

What's even worse is when these dudes (males subs mostly) swear up and down that their user name has NOTHING to do with what they're into. Adding insult to injury (by insulting my intelligence), this only counts against them even more.

I've personally found "PussyBeater" to outperform "CuntBeater" 3:1 in A/B comparisons. Subtlety is a many-splendored thing.

My point exactly!! Some of them just don't know anything about the art of subtlety...

smileforme50 -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/8/2014 3:28:10 AM)

The other thing....as we all know.....is some of the pictures people us. Sure....everybody talks about all the pics of guys' cocks on there profiles, and someday maybe they might get the message, but yesterday I got a "friend" request from someone I have never talked to before and his profile picture was a very disturbing facial view of the Grim Reaper. Sorry....that is just not my style.....

AmoraMora -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/8/2014 4:03:38 AM)

Definitely.

I am generally happy to talk to people regardless of screen name, but have discovered that if the name has a body part in it, that is usually where their focus will be placed, to the exclusion of all else. When writing, there is often an attempt to divert the topic at hand to the body part, which becomes tedious.

Names where people refer to themselves as 'loser', 'pathetic' or 'worm' make me shudder. Maybe some are attracted to that, but I dislike simpering intensely, and know that in time, I would probably start feeling extremely irritated by them.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/8/2014 4:06:52 AM)

I just recently had this happen and I'll "name the name" because it isn't a bad thing.

I saw this name and just had to look at the profile. Alas, the person is an ocean away (and if memory serves; about 20 years too young for me).

How could I not "investigate" the profile of someone who chose the screen name: "CastleAnthrax" ? Are you kidding? It's a "must"!

(Why do I suddenly feel like walking funny while singing about chopping down trees?)

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

MzWhipplash -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/8/2014 4:12:07 AM)

Yes the username of a male submissive and the Avatar or lack of does mean I choose not to go further or even look at their message when their kink is not mine such as eating. scat.

I like intelligence and wit so a clever username will mean I look at their profile prior to replying to their message.

"CastleAntrax" yes I would have that profile while laughing.

yes

GreedyTop -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/8/2014 6:09:39 AM)

I'll agree with ALL of the above.

And DS... Now I've got to check that username for the same reasons! LOL!!!

(fortunately, I have a Killer Rabbit at hand....)

ivone57 -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (7/10/2014 11:47:29 PM)

nah I read all emails sent to me regardless of their nic .... if they are into what im not into I will politely bow out of the conversation and explain why

BecomingV -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (8/2/2014 5:34:16 PM)

Screen names are the perfume/cologne of online first impressions.

While I almost always respond to mail, if only to say, "thank you, but we don't match... best of luck in your search elsewhere," I delete unread if someone has an angry or hateful name.

GoddessManko -> RE: Are you influenced by someone's screen name? (8/2/2014 6:17:09 PM)

Screen names don't matter to me. If they did, I'd ask why the choice. Other than that, nope. Seems superficial to roadblock at a name.
