It was a great help learning new songs and new licks.

Lacuna Coil, especially "Our Truth". Spectacular video on YouTube. Anything from Live off of Throwing Copper still comes close to paradise for me. Andrea Boccielli, new wave, B.B. King are all beautiful. I like some rap but no opera or Kabuki or Celine Dion...that's punishment lol Sorry for not providing links....I am still figuring out how to navigate the forum pages!

My taste in music is a bit across the board. I tend to lean towards old country (30's-80's), classic rock (60's-80's), and some very, very early rap. I have come across some newer music in the past though, that is exceptionally good to my thinking. My musical tastes have always been outside one sigma of the popular bell curve. Sometimes it is a band, or a composer, or even and instrument, that catches my attention and I fill more of the ipod from the source. Let me share a few of my favorites over the decades that may not have found a way to your playlist. Old School.... Steeleye Span once even had a song in latin in the top 40. Their signature was taking folk songs and giving a rock treatment. The Moog was in it's infancy and Korg and Roland were just a dream. But, what do you get when you have a PhD in music that also has a PhD in electrical engineering? You get a composer that builds his own instrument. Wow! Music thread! I like nothing better than sharing my favourite music with people! I've always been a big fan of hardcore/emo/punk music, so everything I like is within that genre. I actually don't love metal/rock. I like hardcore, it's different from metal and rock. And I especially dislike nu-metal. Can deal with bands like Slayer and old Metallica, and maybe some Napalm Death.

What I liked about hardcore is there is more focus on meaningful lyrics than instrumental brilliance. So you have basic chords, basic distortion, no fancy guitar works, solo or any spectacular drummings. Metal has alot of focus on technical guitar skills and drumming and stuffs, the musical part of it, which is nice to watch in a live concert, but usually, I like music with lyrics that are meaningful to me and the vocals has to be raw and heart-wrenching.

Ha, and you can probably tell, I can't appreciate a single song from Pink Floyd or Deep Purple, assuming you are referring to those two bands. I hated what's on the radio until I discovered punk/hardcore/emo, I just love it from first listen and they will live in my heart and in my ears for life. The first punk band I ever listened to was Screeching Weasel, they stole my heart. Then first hardcore band was Earth Crisis, I was in love with the style of music, but I never featured them as they are kinda a few hit wonders only. First emo band might have been Get Up Kids. But ya know, music is like bdsm, there is something for everyone :)
