Crossing party lines may be the left's (compromising's) only hope for some seats. At least by this...it seems like it.

Here

Cochran the repub incumbent defeated McDaniels, the Tea Party backed state Sen. for the Miss. senate seat's repub party runoff.

I wonder of these same voters will turnout for the election on Nov. ? If they do, Cochran could be in trouble.

The precinct level returns in Hinds County bolster the theory that a surge in black, Democratic turnout allowed Senator Thad Cochran to defeat Chris McDaniel, a Tea Party-backed state senator, in last month’s Republican primary runoff in Mississippi.

Mississippi law requires that in order to vote in a Party primary the voter must intend to support the Party's nominee. Are those Democrats are going to vote for Thad Cochran in the Senate race? Meanwhile, interestingly enough, Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel cast a vote in the 2003 Democratic primary.

K.

Apparently, all's fair game in war, love and yes...politics.

DarkSteven -> RE: Mississippi blacks defeat Tea Party candidate (7/11/2014 5:13:27 PM)

This is insane. The districts got so gerrymandered that the primary means more than the general. And a wacko that would never win a normal election nearly upset a moderate Republican, who now will owe his seat to Democrats.

This ain't how elections are supposed to work.

An old, white, Southern Republican Senator who has been "serving" for 40 years, sent up for re-election by black Democrats

Well before Righty starts screaming conspiracy, consider that it would be in the best interest of minority voters, not to mention all voters, that the T-nut took the primary, since that would give the Democrats a shot at the seat. There's less here then meets the eye, it seems.

The great thing about America ballots are still secret so anyone trying to enforce this law can go get fucked.

Of course you can't see the problem with Dem voters deciding the Republican primaries

I never had faith in you

tieherassup -> RE: Mississippi blacks defeat Tea Party candidate (7/11/2014 7:00:49 PM)

I didnt think you could vote in a R primary if youre a registered D

So you think it's ok to lie and misrepresent what party you're affiliated with in order to illegally vote in a closed primary? I wonder if you'll be so blase if the same starts happening in reverse and republicans start screwing with democrat primaries? For some reason, I tend to doubt it.

Remember 2008? Remember Rush's Operation Chaos? I did not see you decrying your party when they were doing the same thing to try and mess with Democratic primaries. What's good for the goose...

Mississippi is not a closed primary. Do not make shit up. And as I've already pointed out Republicans already did screw with Democratic primaries and when we complained we were told in no uncertain terms to shut up. So it's Republicans turn now. the Cochran campaign broke no laws and the voters who voted for him broke no enforceable law.

Except for the Dems that voted twice

The laws governing that vary by state.

Not necessarily. It would be far easier for a moderate R to hold the seat than a Tea Partier, but Tea Partiers have won general elections.

I agree that it's a serious problem, but a natural consequence of badly gerrymandered districts.

Repubs do the same thing, like crossing party lines to vote for a weak dem (rookie no less) to go against DeWitt and what's real surprising about that is, it was a wasted effort as...DeWitt was never in trouble.

You can in some states because of open primary laws.

The dems are amateurs, the reoubs have done this several times. Miss, BTW is an open primary state.

Yeah. It could happen. You say they might vote a senior Senator out because they are black?

Arturas -> RE: Mississippi blacks defeat Tea Party candidate (7/11/2014 11:35:59 PM)

You know, I think the black dems are simply voting for someone who they trust rather than following some marching order from the DNC. This guys been in office for a long time. That means voters will cross party lines to keep him in office. This is a good thing not a bad thing.
