quote:
ORIGINAL: Domnotlooking The critics loved them, but the public refused to budge. They were a one joke band. It was a pretty good joke, as far as it goes, but not as good as the half joke the Cramps managed to string together. I think a lot of their fame was down to their great logo and how it summed up harmless, very unthreatening rebellion. Tommy was supposed to be an OK guy and something of the Spinal Tap-eque luke warm water between Joey and Johnny. I remember seeing Joey walking around the East Village in his leather jacket holding his album cover and hoping someone would approach him so he could rebuff them. Obviously, outside of the East Village, this would mostly be a futile exercise. How many other punk bands are largely extinct? I am thinking maybe the Dead Boys. And aren't the Slits pretty dead too?
