We've read the polls about Clinton, and he has almost in some minds at 67...rehabilitated himself.

Rand Paul accused Clinton of “predatory” behavior. Liz Cheney told Politico’s Mike Allen that she trusts Hillary more than she trusts Bill, implying that was because of Monica Lewinsky. And Todd “legitimate rape” Akin defended himself on Fox News this past week by hitting Clinton’s “long history of sexual abuse and indecency.”

Nixon was kinda creepy and and his own image problems even before running against Kennedy. Still got 2 terms.

Johnson was a keen political player but no real personal sleaze.

Kennedy however his short stay, still admired after being a known womanizer that was kept quite and being on pain meds almost 24/7.

So I ask, could this man be elected today ?

As sheriff, he himself hung 3 convicted murderers, at half his age dated a 20something while a politician and fathered a child out of wedlock, vetoed 8 bills in as many weeks in to begin his fight against corruption as gov. of NY.

As a man of the people and a real outsider, was elected to the presidency. He vetoed 441 bills in one term a record that by far, still stands and saying they were just unnecessary spending bills.

Then the republican big business candidate behind a platform of a tariff on foreign goods (never do that today...Harrison) has his pres, interrupted only to become the only president to be elected to two non-consecutive terms.

Completely hid his bout with cancer from the public and press, slipped out of Wash, for two surgeries and returned without anybody knowing and [it] never came back.

No, Grover Cleveland would never be elected pres. today and after bucking the machine pols certainly would never...get a second term.

Well, it pretty much has to be said that nobody is electable today, with the depth of the sleaze and relentless digging into a candidate's past. Realistically, the only way anyone gets elected is because someone is gonna win the booby prize. The real issue is getting to be why would anyone want to run for public office, seeing the slime one has to wade through?

Yeah...I'm always amazed at why someone would actually WANT to be in office these days.

As you said....."someone is gonna win the booby prize. I know a lot of people (including myself) these days don't necessarily vote for the person they actually WANT to be in office. Most of the time they are voting AGAINST the person they don't want to be in office. They are picking what they think is the lesser of 2 evils.

"Consistently choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil."--Jerry Garcia

But how do we get more good people to run? Living under a microscope while constantly begging for campaign money doesn't sound very appealing to most people.

Good leaders. We vote for good leaders, not good people because nobody is perfect all the time and the press thinks it's their job to magnify any issue of they candidate they oppose. Press opposing or rooting for any candidate is an issue that endangers our nation more than any enemy because it is they are too powerful an influence now with 24/7 cable news. So, we should elect the person for what they believe in and not how perfect they might handle the press.

Good people would desire to run the nation in a fair and just manner. To make sure those that are at risk or falling through the cracks of society are helped. To educate the children to be better citizens. Find ways to fix the nation's infrastructure (better roads, waterways, airports, bridges, etc.). Would have a fix for immigration that takes into consideration that the amount of hate and sorrow already experienced on all sides helps out the forces of evil! They try their best to be honest and forth-coming with information.

Such people in this political atmosphere have absolutely no chance of being elected. A good conservative minded individual whose heart is in the right place, would be annihilated by liberals. The same would be vise versa. Even a moderate individual would be seen as just plain weak on many fronts. I think President Obama has proved that. So have several other senator's and representatives in both the Democratic and Republican Parties. The Tea Party does not have one 'good person' running for or in office right now. They have brought much hatred, sorrow, misery, and distrust to our country.

For many, President Obama was seen a the person that could....FINALLY....fix the growing chasm that was the political gulf between Democrats and Republicans. Try as he might to bridge that chasm, he failed. Not for a lack of trying, but those forces that really did not want him to succeed. Succeeding would have been a great lost of power onto them. Evil...CRAVES...power. Be it money, influence, designing the rules, or changing them to suit their whims. Many Republicans, some Democrats and all the Tea Party are part of this...evil....

To get good government, we'd need MANY good people to enter office at once. Not just into the White House, but the Senate and House. They would need to trust each other, and the public at large to give them some latitude to work with. Fixing the system to minimize corruption and destruction will not be easy. From how elections are run to placing a few good judges into the US Supreme Court.

Perhaps the 'system' of defining Americans as: Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Tea Party....is wrong. May we Americans should rethink the idea of government as our founding fathers did. Taking in what we do not like, and thus, creating something that brings more liberty and fairness for all into the country.

Not an easy road....

So, is Grover Cleveland still dead?

Dead people have been elected to Congress, but then, what difference would that make? The live ones don't do anything.
