Usually, a celebrity dies and I mentally shrug my shoulders and go on about my day, but the death of James Garner definitely saddens me. The Rockford Files was one of my all-time favorite series. http://news.yahoo.com/police-movie-tv-legend-james-garner-dies-103721261.html

Yes....I just heard. He was one of my favorites. The Rockford Files.....Maverick.....and the Polaroid commercials with Mariette Hartley.

....and if you've never seen "Barbarians at the Gate"....you need to find it. I wish it was on Netflix!!!

RIP James.....

Very saddened, he was an amazing actor, didn't matter what he was doing. Not even going to mention Rockford, but things like "Space Cowboys" and "The Notebook" show how well he could fit into roles. If you want to see classic James Garner, find "The Americanization of Emily", where he plays a cowardly WWII photographer who becomes a hero by accident....(besides being a great movie), and his turn as the scrounger in "The Great Escape" is one of the better roles, too. RIP my friend, you gave me a lot of hours of enjoyable watching, you will be missed.

Another great loss.

'Barbarians at the Gate' is on putlocker, for those who would like to see it. Do a search.

Unlike the passing of most actors/entertainers, reading about his passing this morning knocked the wind out of my sails.. he was one of my most fav.. classy, down to earth, sense of humor, twinkle in his eye.. and not a womanizing bad boy.. happily married for 58 (or so) years..

..damn..

Yes, I did enjoy his work, mostly in Maverick. Wasn't always the dominant hero in those. What always struck me is that he looked very much like my father. Had two purple hearts from Korea.

Mr. Garner disdained the pretentiousness of the acting profession. “I’m a Methodist but not as an actor,” he wrote in “The Garner Files.” “I’m from the Spencer Tracy school: Be on time, know your words, hit your marks, and tell the truth. I don’t have any theories about acting, and I don’t think about how to do it, except that an actor shouldn’t take himself too seriously, and shouldn’t try to make acting something it isn’t. Acting is just common sense. It isn’t hard if you put yourself aside and just do what the writer wrote.”

“The Rockford Files” similarly made fun of the standard television detective, the man’s man who upholds law and order and has everything under control. A sucker for a pretty girl and with a distinctly ‘70s fashion sense — he favored loud houndstooth jackets — Rockford was perpetually wandering into threatening situations in which he ended up pursued by criminal goons or corrupt cops. He tried, mostly successfully, to steer clear of using guns; instead, a bit of a con artist himself, he relied on impersonations and other ruses — and high-speed driving skills.
