Hi. I was wondering if people could offer their opinions. I currently have internet through Comcast but am considering switching to another internet provider. Can anyone explain why Comcast is better than other providers, like Verizon, or is Verizon better than Comcast?

Some are better in areas that the others (in other areas) suck in. Choose the one's that's better.

Umm. That's what I'm asking about. I don't know which is better. Other than pricing, they're all the same to me

Any doubts.....seek out the one that says...."I'll give you more". If the "more" part costs less than the "less" offering....go with the one that costs less. (Thus endeth the lesson).

And what then when they cost nearly the same amount [I'm talking $5 difference]. Cost doesn't always mean anything. So how much bandwidth do they actually give you? Does it slow down when there are a lot of people on? Have you done a speed test? And you don't get to moderate the thread. Anyone can respond. But we don't know where you are and what other options you have. And that matters. So ask your neighbors what they have and what are the pros and cons. Not strangers all over the world.

What do you use the Internet for? If you use graphics intensive things like Second Life, it will require a faster connection than if you just cruise sites like this.

I'm currently pay $70 a month for 25 mbps. I did a speed test through a few different sites, not through Comcast, and they all seem to say that that's what I'm getting. Then again, it is also the middle of the night and not many people are online. As for what I use internet for, mostly to watch videos through Hulu and such. Verizon seemed friendly than the experiences I have had with Comcast, but when you don't have the service you're asking about, chances are they may be friendlier than all the rest.. Also, since this would just be internet, customer service shouldn't matter as much right? I mean how often do people call in with serious problems with their internet that is not related to weather or hasn't resolved itself after a few hours [lines get damaged, updates are sent out, etc]. If this is the case, the only issue would really be the actual service. With Verizon [the only other place around here that I know of], are you getting what you pay for?

It's amazing how with our varied topography from street to street you will get differing opinions on services. That's why the person who's 50 feet from you would be a more accurate barometer. Plus, they've been through setup and billing cycles, possibly contacted customer service so can tell you if the business end of the carrier is satisfactory.

I live out in the country and use Hughesnet/Dish Network (they merged last year I believe). I can watch Netflix with no problems, download PDFs of crochet patterns and play Runescape with no problems. BTW, Lookie can post whatever he wants...you don't own this site.

I live in a small city, we have a few choices for internet. Comcast, Fair Point, and Verizon wireless. We use Comcast. Verizon is just too expensive, and Fair Point has lousy customer service. Comcast isn't much better, but the speed is there.

Our cable here, Optimum, doesn't have a contrract. Does comcast make you sign one? Verizon will. That's a big factor for me.

I have Comcast...no contract. I can leave any time I want. Have had very little problem with internet going down.

Best thing is to ask your friends and/or neighbors and even look online for a site that has customer reviews. I live in a fairly large town, and I have Verizon that I tether in to my PC via my Android phone. But this town seems to have a "dead zone", like a spot where range of the towers miss a spot, and my service can be really crappy. My service flips back and forth between 4G (which I'm supposed to be getting) and 3G randomly, or sometimes just plain fritzes out. I know people who have switched over to ATT U-verse who raved about it at first, but now are screaming about the poor service and high fees. The area you live in has a LOT to do with it, you really should ask around locally.

It's mostly adequate, but occasionally poops out. After a year of $25 p/mo promotional plan, the best they could do for me was $5 off the 'regular' price, plus bump the speed (which honestly, didn't really seem to help much while streaming). They are still significantly cheaper than Charter, and from my acquaintances who have Charter, not much better or worse as far as service. In other words, they both suck to varying degrees on any given day. [&:]

I have AT&T DSL (NOT u-verse) for my internet. I've been pleased with it for the 12+ months I've had it. And it beats the hell outta the comcast service I used o have. I don't game, though (aside from the single player types - backgammon, hidden object etc. that don't require massive graphic loads).

In the outlying areas, less so. In my area there's one good one, one crappy one. Oddly, the crappy one costs more.
