It's a shame that some half-baked Americans have such a poor opinion of Obama.
Outside of the US he's reasonably well-liked.

The main downside of gerrymandered districts is extremism without the consequence of being unseated. Many Congressman are untouchable incumbents. Cantor lost in VA b/c he was not extreme enough.

just read Sanity's and Theheretic's posts to see a distorted reality. The same types of voters felt the country was going to hell under CLINTON, when the USA was all peace and prosperity. Today we have stability and competence in the White House, but the far right believes we're falling off a cliff.

A child refugee crisis to them is "an invasion." Defaulting on the US debt is a "good thing."

Consider this
The SS retirement trust fund is in good shape. So is Medicare, the ACA really does work at least in that regard.

However the Social Security Disability Insurance trust fund will be depleted late in 2016. The Social Security trustees have been telling Congress about this at least since at least 2003. Congress has done nothing. SS disability is not something you get if you've never worked. This is strictly for people who've worked their whole lives and then something happens and they can no longer work. It's the very definition of the kind of social safety net a functioning society should have and ours is about to run out of money.

You would be correct in technical terms and in terms of the responsibility of congress to hold the federal ledger in proper balance to achieve those financial safety net goals. They have not. The so-called SS trust fund while a separate fund is full of unique and particularly suited federal govt. IOU's.

This was precipitated by the exec. and the congress under R Reagan for the Greenspan reform of 1983 and ever since...squandering an estimated $2-$3 trillion over payment to only partially mask 34 years of continuing federal profligacy. Thus the so-called trust fund has about as much trust as society trusts govt., in the first place.

Conservatives, liberals and independent all raised hell stating in fiscal 1983 because the so-called reform was based on the tripling of payroll taxes. Congress thus owes the American workers and retiree about $3 trillion and trust me...they ain't got it and ain't going to go get it.

The same holds true for SSI (disability) which adds to this unfunded liability. And so it goes for the very successfully competing greed and selfishness of the American capitalist held so dear to his incentives.

Hey, I did put forth legislation to deregulate pesticides. Hell, **I** have to be for something!

When I come back to Washington, I'm hoping for some Benghazi and IRS hearings. Meanwhile I can proudly say I refused to vote on 26 State Department nominations including the ambassadors to Guatemala (child refugee crisis) and Sierra Leone (Ebola virus crisis.)
