smilezz -> A Glimmer... (7/11/2006 5:09:53 AM)

I am not sure where to post this, my mind is scattered at the moment.....my focus is shot to hell.
I just finished posting about emotions, i had to end it and step back from the computer....find my coffee....find a balance before i go out into the huge world and work.  Most of you know that Thorns is on His first phase of Depoloyment.  It's not always easy, i sometimes loose it.............like........now.   One of the things i just did to regain my balance is, grabbed my cup of coffee, went out onto the porch......it's still a wee bit dark outside.  Usually there is all kinds of noises going on in the neighborhood.....there was an unusual silence.
I looked over at one of my flower pots, looked for my spiders to see if there were any new webs...there were none. (i find alot of peace in them)  I happened to gaze up and heard a small squeek.........then a few more squeeks.  I sat quietly sipping my coffee while i ended up watching an amazing dance of  7-8 bats flying around.
I found a glimmer of my sanity again.  They made me smile.
When life interferes with your focus...when you feel scattered and you don't have an immediate outlet...........where do you find your glimmer?

~smilezz~

My sympathy to you for his absence. I do find those quiet moments early in the am on the porch just as soothing. A few moments in the hot tub or reading are also quite relaxing. Hopefully your Master will be home to you whole and safe very soon.

Often from the same place you did, smilezz.  Nature and music are the two things that flow around me and sooth my soul like warm water.  I go outside to where people and concrete are not, breathe deeply, close my eyes for a moment... and listen with my soul.  It works every time.

Honestly? I would say I find my "glimmer" or peace as I would call it, in simple prayer. I am Christian...devoted as well. And for me, prayer has been the one true way that I find peace. Nature is also a great thing, I love to garden and such, and when I have my hands in the soil, it is a very peaceful thing. :0) I hope you are doing well, me growing up in a marine corps family, I completely understand how you're feeling.

smilezz, I had not realized Thorns was in the military. I was in your position for 15 years, it's not an easy one. Please feel free to contact me any time you wish. As far as finding my centre, that peace and calm. I echo what the others have said. I tended to avoid family support group stuff the military offers in favour of  family, a few dear friends and most of all being home. Living in the country close to nature, spending quiet time out with the horses, dogs or on a hike thru the woods focusing on all of that grandness I feel so connected with is a lifesaver to my sanity. My concerns shrink into perspective and I begin to trust in the larger powers of the universe again.

At the moment.....The song 'Crazy' by Gnarles Barkley.

You always snap out of it, you are a resiliant, happy ass wench sort of girl.

My highest regards to MrThorns and Yourselfness,

Ron

A warm good morning dear one and a good question--we as humans forget that we must stay centered, we often don't take the time to do that--

I too, use nature, being very grounded in its healing powers, so its the garden, new flowers or the horses and as always the marvelous sound of My teen's laughter.

We keep you and Thorns in our spiritual thoughts.

I can related to being a military wife...Navy wife for almost a decade. It's not easy...we have to learn to be self sufficient, which is hard because we wanted to have a partnership/relationship. I've sent a private email about some totem stuff about bats and spiders. I hope that, even if you don't buy totems, what the paragraphs have to say are helpful. *hugs*

I find it in excerise..usually the walking kind is best for that.

I hit "ok" accidently

I wish there was something I could say that would make missing Thorn easier for you.... I can tell you that there are many many people (myself included) that think of our people in Iraq everyday and are sending our warmest thoughts not only to them, but to those they leave behind. This time will come to an end.

mistoferin -> RE: A Glimmer... (7/11/2006 8:09:04 AM)

I find mine in nature. I go out into the woods and find a nice place to sit...stay very quiet and watch the woods come alive around me. I go and sit by the shore of a lake in the early morning hours and watch the mist roll across the water. I take a walk on a beach. I lay in the grass under the shade of a large oak and watch the dance of the leaves in the breeze and the glimmer of the sun shining through. Nature is what I find outside of a relationship that recenters me and makes my head "right".

My best freind is deployed in a very shitty part  of pro Saddam Iraq right now, he is a marine. I told him "when the enemy goes bangedy bang dont forget to duck".  Abusing large amounts of coffee is another good way to deal with stress.

At the moment.....The song 'Crazy' by Gnarles Barkley.
I love that song.

Smilezz--

Meditation and nature, as said above are really great ways to find that glimmer.

I also personally have some great books I look to - the Tao Te Ching and The Alchemist are both books that have affected me deeply, and I go back to them often when I'm feeling unsure about life or sadness so heavy I think I won't be able to go on. The philosophy of taoism is very uplifting even if you practice a different religion. Also, for a little bit lighter but still wonderful read - The Tao of Pooh and Te of Piglet. I don't think I've ever seen anyone put down the Tao of Pooh without a smile on their face. ALL of these books are wonderful accompaniments to nature, as well. If you aren't outside appreciating the rythm of the world around you when you read them, you will probably want to be. I'm sure there are other books out there that "speak" to others and remind them of the reasons they do have a life with "glimmer" in it to begin with.

Conversations with certain people who understand can also bring that glimmer, of course. A deep, long, intense conversation with someone who is not just listening to wait for their turn to talk can be beautiful, because it may not take away melancholy but it certainly makes the load of it feel a lot lighter.

I also love children, and think that little tid bits of child-wisdom and innocence is great. If you know any toddlers sometimes a conversation with a toddler, or just rocking a baby to sleep can make the world feel a bit better.

And you can think of your relationship with him too... Because no matter how hard it gets he will have thoughts of you to keep him going. How lucky you are to have found each other because no matter how long he is gone for, he knows that he has you in this world and vice versa.

irishbynature -> RE: A Glimmer... (7/12/2006 2:23:01 AM)

Like you smilezz, I get my peace from being with and around nature. My favorite thing to do is find a quiet lake or pond (given I have bug spray...lol) and just sit and listen. [:)]
