just sitting here this morning drinking a hot cup of coffee when this thought popped into my head. I am an only child and I have noticed a few other Dominants talk of being as well ..... so I guess the question should be worded like this:
 
Are you an only child or maybe the senior sibling in your family, and do you think that may lead to your "status"?
 
would love to hear other peoples thoughts on the subject

I'm an only child and while I have major switch tendancies for the right person I am all submissive quite possibley even slave.

I'm the youngest; my brother (full brother) is 9 years older. As kids, he tormented me (imagine a 4 year old girl and a 13 year old boy!), but I've worked through that. Growing up, it's like my parents had two different families. We never even went to the same school system, let alone schools. By the time I was old enough to establish a halfway meaningful relationships with him, he went off to college. He's a good guy and seems to be an excellent father, but I don't feel I know him very well...more like an aquaintance that I talk to about twice a year.

Let's see, I'm second eldest of 4 and a switch but lean to the submissive.
Jim is the youngest of 3 and is very Dom
Older sister is a first daughter of a first daughter and very very Dommie. She just doesn't know it.

Only child. Don't think it directly relates, but indirectly because I HAD to become highly self reliant at a very early age, thus confident in my own ability to deal with almost whatever life has to throw at me. Self-reliance and confidence are definatly helpful, but I think I'd have turned out this side of the dynamic anyhow, there are indicators of it from a VERY early age.

I was raised as an only child.
I got seperated form my siblings at a young age due to a custody battle/ kidnapping to another country.

I have 1 older brother.  I actually think my Dominance stems from my father raising me and my brother by himself for quite a few years, back when it wasn't popular to be Mr. Mom.  He always told me not to count on anyone else for anything, to root for the underdog, and be in control of my life.

I find that to be funny in thats something this Mr Mom has told his son on many occasions . worded a bit different but the same context ...

I also want to say that I too was an only child who at an early age had to be come self suffiecient and thrown into the lions den of surviving on my own . being in control of my own destiny

It's interesting to see placement in a family and how it relates to your placement in the lifestyle or should I say the avenue you chose for yourself ...

I see alot of the only child syndrome where we had no choice but to take control of situations . I also seen the youngest scenario .. especially when there may have been a huge gap in ages .... as far as twins I believe on person in the twins will carry dominant tendencies and the other more submissive tendencies ...

I look forward to seeing the phsyce of those in the lifestyle based on there placement in the family. it really is something to ponder afterall

Cross is oldest of 3 boys. I however, was raised as an only child.

I am the youngest boy and the oldest was a bully until I got bigger and stronger and put a stop to it. He might beat me down at the time but I always came back later and got my shot in. Now he will only mouth off to me if we are on the phone (which hasn't happened in many years) and he knows I don't know where to find him. I have a brother and sister between us and a sister younger then me.
