I don't know what the validity of ASMR is as a diagnosable condition. But the Preston & Steve morning show on Philadelphia's WMMR had a major segment on it.

Whoa, that was hilarious. Not what GoddessManko and I were describing; shiftyw's references to trance and meditation, being non-sexual in nature, sound more like it. However, there may be more than just a few forms of this which people experience in different ways.
What's misleading are the words "head orgasm","headgasm" and "hairgasm", as well as "asmrgasm" itself. Meridian is a euphemism for "orgasm."

Here's what I gleaned.
-- Preston says the sound of others typing on a computer keyboard (but not himself) makes him drool and that it's "exciting."
He claims it is soothing, not sexual, to hear random or improvisational sounds, frequency & semi-rhythmic gait of ambient noise. Nature or environmental sounds not so much.
He compares it to meditation...trance...zoning out...relaxing & hypnotic...like almost getting high. NOT a whispering, lispy female voice on ASMR videos for him personally; there are *roleplay* videos of getting a haircut, massaging the scalp while shampooing & conditioning.
These are his triggers:
-- Cutting paper w/scissors
-- Cutting hair, getting hair cut
-- Wrapping presents, the crinkling of paper
-- Going into a paper bag (crinkling noise)
-- Sound of high heels clicking
-- Rummaging through a cosmetic bag filled w/make-up
-- Squeaky magic marker on board
-- Basketball shoes squeaking across floor
-- Skates on ice

Others bring up the olfactory equivalent of freshly cut grass, or that the opposite (turn-off) would be someone crunching on potato chips while eating.
a) Male caller states response as relaxing, not sexual.
b) Female caller said she chooses a keyboard by testing it first for the clicking sounds it makes while she's typing.
c) Male caller likes to hear keyboard clicking at the auto parts store while he makes purchase, also clicking of women's heels
d) Mention of airport ticket clicking noise, loving the sound of haircutting scissors
e) Others bring up rhythmic music, fire crackling in fireplace, babbling brook, which are not well-received suggestions.
f) Male caller is into the visuals, not auditory, as in the motion & tapping of pencils as being relaxing and soothing, distracted him in class.
g) Male caller says it's not sexual, but his attention was caught by a girl in school who would whisper when reading books.

Although the majority of ASMRers claim to not get sexually aroused, I wouldn't be surprised if some do; for example, I can see where the clicking of high heels can easily get fetishized. It wouldn't surprise me if these sensory stimuli can turn into sensual arousal responses and/or reaching a state of erotic headspace with certain individuals. I wouldn't classify mine as ASMR, but music can get me turned on, so can the sound of some men's voices (particularly if they have a sexy-sounding accent). But, then again, this may be something else based on verbal-aural arousal factors.

I have extremely enjoyable bursts of sensations i call skin orgasms from my skin being touched and rubbed just so. It builds and builds as shivers of enjoyment, where i get goose bumps and the skin tightens up, and as it peaks and crests finally my whole body and skinarea shudders and spassoms, if you do it to the base of my butt cheeks, my butt cheeks clench and i jerk in pleasure. I am extremely ticklish behind my knee, and people doing things to the skin th ere with their nails bring out a knee jerk(no pun intended) leg jerk foot stomp. I am emotionally satisfied and these skin "orgasms" trigger sub space.i don't care if anyone wwnts to classify them as not orgasms, to me and for me, which is all that counts, they're orgasmic. I love it. For one, anyone can do it, and two there's no risk of Stds!

It's sexual for me. I will often seek to have Daddy stimulate me with skin touching, stroking, tickling till the sensation explosion, when i want gratification/ subspace but don't want to fuck or mutual masturbation.

^ tingling in your face, espicially, around the lips, and after a high energy activity- is actually usually a sign of low calcium- and you should absolutely get blood tested for it...

It is MY understanding that ASMR doesn't give you a boner and an orgasm. I suppose it can be erotic- but it isn't sexual in most cases. Its not the same as "getting wet". To me its always sounded like "goosebumps" to the extreme. They also can hear someone's voice and "melt" into a trance. It, to me, seems closer to a meditation thing than a sexual one. If that makes any sense.

Ok... thought from left field. The Bard knew about ASMR...

"By the pricking of my thumbs
Something wicked this way comes"

Having an off kilter mind can be entertaining... <grin>

More info with specifics on ASMR described in the latest strip in this webcomic: http://www.ohjoysextoy.com/

OP, are you by chance a reader of this? I find it a funny coincidence that a thread like this pops up in the same week as this strip. But it could just be a coincidence.

So I'd say no.
PS I loved the strip. Cute drawings.

ETA- Both my brother and I would get this tingly feeling when we had lice checks in school. I actually think it was because of this in retrospect. I loved lice check day and everyone else thought I was weird.

Silly me, not checking timestamps and all that.

Read something a while back about a phenomenon in which you learn a new word/concept/whatever and then suddenly see it everywhere. Maybe that's what happened.

But back on topic: Not really sure if I've experienced it. I have had warm, fuzzy, thingly feelings when my spine is touched. Especially up toward the neck. But it's dependent on who touches me and isn't triggered by everyone. Boyfriend while cuddling? Hell yes. Coworker alerting me they're moving behind me so I don't back up and run them over? DO NOT WANT.

That happens to me a lot.
