David Axelrod has come out saying that the charges against Perry are shaky at best.
I don't think he can be dismissed as a partisan Republican.
Once again accusation = guilt.

Guilt might not matter here, Bama.

If only he had a (D) after his name; the PPLs would be marching in droves to support him (Marion Barry, Slick Willy, Jesse Jackson, Oblamer, et. al.)

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

First let me say that this is not in reply to anyone AND..............I am not a supporter of Gov. Perry, I think his fuckin' toll roads suck.

BUT..............................................

"The unit Lehmberg oversees investigates statewide allegations of corruption and political wrongdoing."

I would bet most of you never saw the videos of her when she was picked up. There were lots of them, on the side of the road, in the lock up and elsewhere.
She did more than just be drunk and act stupid.
She acted like a fucking pompuss ass hole.
She was put in a straight jacket to protect herself and those around her.
She is a total fuckup in her job and about as onesided as it is possible.

Ask the people of Austin, TX.
here is one that happened in her county, and the cop is probably gonna get hung out to dry on this one and the city is payin about $750K to his family,

http://austin.craigslist.org/rnr/4605048991.html , what part did she play in this one?

She should not oversee anything. She is not qualified to oversee dogshit scooping.

If you quit pissing on each other and look at the real picture of her record you will see that Perry was trying to keep her from continuing in office because she is not ethically qualified to command an ETHICS dept.

AND..............., just ask yourselves, after the videos and all came out and went public, how many of us would be able to keep our jobs, for sure I would have lost my badge in a heartbeat for embarrassing the dept. how about the rest of you?

Ok start the pissing contest again. I am out of here.

Of course, that likely has more to do with the indictment than anything that actually happened.

Right. Just that he was indicted, there will be some consequences. How much bad press did the Duke Lacrosse team go through because of an accusation that was later determined to not be true? Every Catholic Church and Catholic Priest will have some sliver of negativity cast about them simply because they are of the Catholic faith, even if they played zero part in the "man handling" scandal. Rush said he was surprised Donovan McNabb was getting as much positive attention as he was because he wasn't a very good QB, according to Rush. And, Rush wasn't exactly wrong, was he?

Yes, but this one, this time -- might backfire. Why?

Look at Christie: Yes, he was railroaded likely, but where is the hard, low-information voter proof? None. So very harmful. Plus, Christie is a firebrand, in-your-face. He makes a lot of enemies that way, too.

Now look at Perry: There is video of Lehmberg acting like a drunken asshole (which she is and was). All Perry, who is pretty good on PR, has to do is show that over-and-over again. Call their bluff and say: this is not who Texans or Americans, Republican or Democrat, want running anything. This is disgusting, obscene behavior. Your kids shouldn't even see this. I want y'all to know this is what they are indicting me for. Perry could come out of this proving he has the cajones to stand up to people (contrast with Obama), making Dems look like fools even to many low-info voters and to independents, and with higher approval rating than ever. Axelrod is smart enough to see this. This isn't about principle, since he has none. This is about politics. This is the equivalent of a "legitimate rape" comment except it's on the other foot. Now, Perry still could blow it but if he stays on message and just keeps on playing video of her actual alcoholic behavior over and over again, he's got a winner here.

Well I am sure there is real good juicy story there but several repub DA's and ADA's over the 40+ years I lived in my old community were caught drunk driving but were never even arrested. To a one, they all got a pass and were driven home by the police that pulled them over.

No arrest, no pics, no tapes or videos of any kind. Just a paragraph in the county paper.

I don't doubt that. Both Republicans and Democrats will protect their own and in the old days, any politician would protect another. Should what you describe have happened? No. Did it and does it all the time? Yes. Ted Kennedy got away with murder not because he was a Democratic but because he was a Kennedy in Massachusetts when the family owned the state. Still, there are differences here. Perry removed the drunk driver and all-around-despicable person from the Ethics Board. Seems pretty reasonable. Upon which he is indicted. Which is obviously political payback and truly disgusting as it could of course ruin his career and even send him to prison. The equivalent would have been if in your examples a high-ranking politician had removed the DA from his position, upon which the high-ranking politician was indicted. So your example is not an equivalent; it is an example of unacceptable behavior that nevertheless occurs.

Why did your side decide to dump shrillary?

I don't know that its been decided yet.. however, imo, anyone would be better than her!!!

(Disclaimer- I am not a D or an R, for those that don't know)

I dunno what the hell this has to do with the OP...
maybe it should be a new thread?

As to the OP, he will walk away from this...

all politicians are pretty much the same, they take money from the 1%, most politicians are the 1%, and when their lips are moving, they are lying..

Hillary is a bit worse than the rest tho, imo..

They take money from the 99% too. At least the 1% that they take it from can afford it.

He didnt remove her, he vetoed state funds to the ethics board, he was indicted for
carrying out a threat to veto state funds to the local district attorney, an elected Democrat who refused to resign following a drunken-driving arrest, straight from the first and most other news info websites.
Can you not read?

Sanity -> RE: Rick Perry Takes A Header... (8/18/2014 5:30:45 AM)

quote:

Texas Chainsaw Prosecution

Criminalizing politics hits a new low with the Rick Perry indictment.

Prosecutorial abuse for partisan purposes is common these days, and the latest display is taking place in the all-too-familiar venue of Austin, Texas. On Friday a Travis County prosecutor indicted Governor Rick Perry for the high crime of exercising his constitutional right to free speech and his legal power to veto legislation.

Lest you think we oversimplify, read the two-count indictment. It's all of two pages. It charges Mr. Perry with abusing his office by "threatening to veto legislation that had been approved and authorized by the Legislature of the State of Texas to provide funding for the continued operation of the Public Integrity Unit of the Travis County District Attorney's office unless Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg resigned from her official position as elected District Attorney."

Yes, that's all they've got. Usually when prosecutors want to use the criminal statutes to cripple a political opponent, they come up with at least some claims of personal or political venality. In this case the D.A.'s office is trying to criminalize the normal process of constitutional government...

Not that Rick Perry is a perfect man, but in a perfect world the consequences would be severe, and the prosecutors would be the ones punished by an informed, intelligent electorate

As it is turning out, even Dems are speaking out as how this is a political charge. The Judge said he won't issue a warrant for Perry.

Perry could use his mug shots in his ads as "proof" how the Dems use malicious prosocution, the IRS, the EPA, OSHA and whatever agency they can to go after political enemies. Especially as more and more Repubs and Dems are coming on board saying this is a bogus case.

I wonder if that makes the DA guilty of the same charge she is indicting Perry on? How ironic, eh?
