*goes back and checks through her copy of Venus in Furs*

Nope, apparently it's not old school. Guess it must be new school then :-)

FieryOpal -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 5:32:44 AM)

@SeekingTrinity - How would a S/switch follow written *protocol* without becoming slightly schizoid? (Pardon the slashiness, which must get on your nerves to no end. [sm=frown.gif] ) Another instance of subversive discrimination against S/switches? [8D]

quote:

ORIGINAL: PeonForHer

Some capitalise 'Peon', some don't. I don't care. I take the first as good manners in the standard way; I take the second as good manners in a non-standard way because it shows recognition that I'm a sub. I'm good either way.

As for other bits of protocol - like the capitalised 'Me' and 'Mine': again I don't care. But I will say that in general I quite like D/s protocol because I find it somewhat horny. Anything that gives me even a semi-stiffy is, ipso facto, correct.

So there it is: I have Spoken and the matter is resolved.
---
I wrote 'Spoken' that way as a joke but, on reflection, I think it's pretty cool. I want my (hypothetical) femdom to write it that way on selected occasions, too. Yes. Sausage time for peon/Peon.
P/peon, if you had wanted to always be addressed with a lower case "p" then you should have structured your user name as such from the very start, dear chap. [sm=shame.gif] (Or should I call you woody instead? [:D] )

Btw, most S/switches have a Top/bottom-ratio preference, n'est-C/ce pas? When T/their (that was just for you, P/peon) U/user name has an initial cap, then They would identify with being a Top more frequently; conversely, user name all lower case would signify identifying more frequently as a bottom. That works, I daresay...unless I/it's an even split. [sm=sigh.gif]

Like I said, I didn't care, and still don't. [:)]

GoddessManko -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 6:24:25 AM)

FR: I don't care what people call me except for MY OWNED sub, and the usual moniker needn't be demanded when we get used to each other's presence. Also I prefer for honorifics to be used when my sub is comfortable and not forced because that's when I know he's in that nice, gushy, comfortable place. You can call me a one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater and the chances of it irking me are zip, I'm more likely to be irked being lumped categorically in a place I don't belong which rarely happens in personal experience.
If you shorten my name to an unnecessary degree I just think it's due to laziness and hey, we all get lazy. But commonly I am known as Manko to many who matter to me, pretty much my only name that was self proclaimed yearssss ago. But I have had many psuedonyms from "Leggs", "Peaches", "Miss Pearl" (in fact my bestie in Mumbai has never called me anything but), "Goddess" (by vanilla guys mostly, though it usually starts with "you are a..."), "Kiki" (don't ask me), "Xfic", "Aerial" and so on. I don't think words matter as much as actions and besides aren't honorifics and such supposed to be very personable and not for the whole planet anyway? A fellow not too long ago called me "Manko" angrily thinking it would tick me off. That was rather amusing since it's technically my only self dubbed name and I've had it for almost a decade. For some reason though, I am not too crazy about being called Mistress more than most things. Maybe because "technically" it should be used for married women.

InHisHeart -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 6:28:56 AM)

Wow, all this over a very simple question whether or not upper/lower case in emailing is annoying.

For me, it doesn't matter what someone does but if they insist on what they think I should do, that's not going to roll with me. There's only one person who demands anything from me and whose demands I will follow. His set of rules, protocol, rituals are the only ones that have significance to me.

The same with calling any ole' Dom "Sir" whether on-line or in RL. The only Doms I call Sir (name) are those who Master instructs me to call Sir (name) and that's only one (a very close, highly respected friend). If some Dom has an issue with it then they need to talk to Master about it, not me!

This was an entertaining thread. [sm=popcorn.gif]

Thirdly, I was reading your profile - with interest - churchofdrk, your journal talks of 'earning' the title of master. I'm curious if I wanted to be a master, is there like an exam or something I'd need to take? Is there a course? maybe a home study guide? - thanks (in advance) for your help :)

and again, apologies to OP, i just couldn't help myself

(I've really screwed up the capitalisation here, I Just don't know what i am any more)

I've heard rumors that you can send $59.95 to the Acme Master Academy in the Cayman Islands and be accepted to their online Master program. 2 weeks of study in all things Master and you get awarded your degree...a Masters in Mastering. If you go for the 3 weeks program, you can get your PhD in Master. You get to run around with the prestigious title of Doctor Master. Just don't minor in wankology though. Unless you want to run around with the official title of Master Bator [:)].

Don't forget to tip your waiters and Im here all week [:D]

~FRing it from this point on~

I'm all for folks doing what tweaks their cookies. I just don't think that what establishes protocol in one man's world translates across the board and establishes protocol in anyone else's world. That is where one poster made the mistake. The other mistake was to continue digging the hole deeper instead of just putting down the shovel. I myself will actually tell people not to do the whole "capitalize everything pertaining to Me" or slashing everything phenomenon when I see it because...well...it annoys the fuck out of me. So it's not an establishment of protocol across the board. That was the part I objected to.

*ETA: oh sorrow, I didn't capitalize properly when referring to myself. Have I lost all of my dominant street cred? [:(]

CreativeDominant -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 9:56:02 AM)

This all reminds of that old comedy tirade by a comedian named Bill Saluga, who dressed as a soot-suited character known by the name of Raymond J. Johnson Jr:

You can call me Ray
Or you can call me Jay
Or you can call me RJ
Or you can call me RJJ
Or you can call me RJJ, Jr
But ya doesn't has to call me Johnson!

mnottertail -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 9:58:30 AM)

zoot-suited you mean

I think it means that w/W/w/We(for those who've passed the Master Bater Bar - I was going to get more ridiculous, but couldn't be arsed) are harbouring latent desires to be all subby and stuff

ETA to add the e to w/W/w/Ww/We

Also Littleladybug, try reading to love to serve to obey by Mama Vi (Vi Johnson), and Herstory http://www.leatherlibrary.org/HERSTORY.pdf

Both are great personal accounts of what it was like in leather and bdsm back in the days of old (many moons before I was born)

Thanks. :) I was being somewhat facetious in what I was saying, but do always like to get recommendations for quality reading.

*Now I will go back to crying in my coffee because I'm not ChrchofDrk's type*

You know what a Johnson is in Brit slang, I suppose?

quizzicalkitten -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 1:18:46 PM)

Can you show us a photo of what a johnson is lang for Peon? Some of us are more visual learners.

I'm not. Get a room. [:)]

~FRing it~

I'm a visual learner myself, but if you've seen one Johnson...you've pretty much seen 'em all. [:D]

PeonForHer -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/21/2014 2:28:40 PM)

FR

Hmm. Some dictionaries have 'Johnson' as deriving from Canadian or even US slang.

DesFIP -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/24/2014 9:13:50 PM)

I get the feeling that I'm the only one who started wondering what the opposite of a capital letter is. Either a non-capital (which I think is lame) or a miniscule letter.

Upper and lower of course refer to printing, the capital letters were in the case above and the non-capital in the one below. So that the printer didn't have to look to get the correct one.

windchymes -> RE: Is it me or does this annoy anyone else? (8/24/2014 10:57:55 PM)

Soot-suit. It's what chimney sweeps wear when they're working.

I'm afraid font size is waaaaaayyyyy down towards the bottom of my list of things that I even barely notice, let alone annoy me.
