ORIGINAL: MercTech Absolutely hilarious ... absolutely... ....since you have no clue that I just owned you every which way! quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech If talking about the original design criteria for interstate highways; the Interstate Highway Act of 1956 is not an "out of date" reference. And there has been no improvements on the design criteria for highways since? You should go to a city level, regional library and ask the nice librarians for such information. You'll be blown away by what information they give you.... Not to many years ago, it was found that 'Clover Leaf' on and off ramp highways create more congestion during rush hour than actually help. That and the design creates more accidents? That on ramps require greater distances to allow vehicles with slower acceleration to speed up to 'highway speeds' without causing 'merging problems'. Or that off ramps require multiple lanes to keep gridlock from forming due to many cars exiting at the same time. How would people have found all of this information, MercTech? You see to think you have 'a clue' here. Why don't you 'enlighten' all of us..... quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech Cited references are current references on the internet. Where else is an internet discussion going to go for a reference. Cited references are NOT current references on the internet. They are on there because the internet stores just about everything; while taking up the weight of a non-genetically modified strawberry. There are plenty of discussions if you know where to look. If your having trouble, contact your state's university system and ask for where to find information on civil engineering discussions as they relate to highways and roads. Or mechanical engineers for cars and trucks. quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech I never cited a massive PDF but gave a link to an official government webpage in case someone wanted to dig into the deep darks of reference material. And you didn't bother to ask 'where is this link getting its information from'? Your link points to the PDF the information its stating comes from. This may come as a shock to you, but in the civilized world, that's how you give proper credit to the author(s). quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech On a more personal level; it was the antics of people like Joan Claybrook that convinced me to quit voting the Democratic line as my family had done for generations. Really? And there is no silly and stupid antics from the Republican/Tea Party? If anything, there is MORE, when compared to Democrats. Yeah, Democrats say some dumb things from time to time; for the Republican/Tea Party its considered a virtue to be an idiot and a fool! quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech No argument that lower speeds don't mean better gas mileage? At least until restrictive speed limits require a downshift and higher engine rpm. The point was bullshit myth being propagated by one district's schools. I twas shown in the 1800s that traveling faster than 50 mph does not cause the internal organs to burst. (Yes, at one time that was purported to be true by opponents of mechanized transportation.) If you want to believe your fantasy.... ...don't be alarmed when the nice men in white walk in with a white jacket with long arms that tie behind you and give you a padded cell. quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech I still think B.S. myths were used to degrade the original design of the Interstate highway system. When discussing history; is it better to cite references when the item happened or up to date references to someones spin on what happened? No, the original design of highways was to handle problems for its time. As time marched forward, more people started using vehicles; the roads grew more congested. Logically that meant newer designs based on research would need to be found to handle the problems of both 'then' and the future. Research has been updating over the decades. quote:
ORIGINAL: MercTech For your perusal, a dated reference to the Joan Claybrook policies I remember and cringe from. Your Original Link using the link function button Notice how clean it makes the post look? An yet much information is KNOWN about motorcycles crashing. Including the helmets and the bike leathers. If we were using only the information from the 1950's; how would we possibly know all this information found on youtube? The stuff that is European/British has also been understand in 'The States'.
