LittleGirlHeart -> the kindle will not hold a charge while in use any more (9/15/2014 6:39:41 PM)

The charging z is still there, but the charge percent is steadily gouing down. This just started 3 days ago, and we've had it for 2 years, maybe a new charging cord, since this one got bent, or is this the new norm for the performance of a 2 yo item:(

There is hope! My problem turned out to be the charging cord, and my 1st gen kindle fire still works and charges just fine. [:)]

I find that all this micro usb connections get dirty eventually. Often, it's just pocket fluff. I clean them out with a plastic toothpick. That usually sorts out recharging problems.

Call them. They have great customer service.

Check its not stuck on indexing. Type a random word into search and when it tells you it can't find it, it will also show up any other books presently being indexed. Try the same the next day and the next. If one book keeps showing up its probably because its a corrupt file and corrupt files drink your battery like nothing else.

Also do you put your kindle into sleep mode when your not using it?

I rarely bother to turn mine off, it does it by itself after a few minutes. Do you find a difference?

Nope. Apparently a new cord is not going to help. Even with new cord, it's still dying while plugged in

charge issues seem common eventually, daddy's other Kindle.stopped charging was sporadic, you had to hold it jus right prop the cord up yDa yada and finally.stopped charging entirely.

Get in touch with customer service. I have gotten two replacements for my kindle keyboard. Once was when bubbles appeared in the screen randomly and after it refused to come out of sleep mode. Both times were after the first yr was up and they offered to replace it immediately.

If you haven't tried a new cord I would really do that as well. Charging sporadically is likely to be a cord issue. It could be the charging port but I would not start with that assumption. If you can use the same cord to charge something else without issue than you know its not the cord.

I used Daddy's charging cord, and it still lost power, just as fast as with mine. My cord fits his phone base, and his phone sometimes does not charge well on it. But since a new cord won't charge while in use, i think it's the charging port.

Have you contacted Amazon customer service yet?

Never assume that just because the plug fits that it's ok to use it!
Different chargers for different devices have different charging rates and often different voltages.
Using a charger for a device that it wasn't designed for can cause fires and explosions.

As several people have already said... contact Amazon customer services.

He recomends resetting it to factory default. And, a new faster charging plug may help.

Well yeah make sure the software hasn't gotten f'ed up. Check the micro-usb port on the kindle make sure it's ok. Since your cable is screwed up *shrug* it's plausible that the cable isn't the only part to get mangled. But if that's all fine you can change out the battery fairly easily: http://www.ehow.com/how_5711441_replace-kindle-battery.html

P.S. I'll check my kindle charger, but if you're using the stock charger I don't think they come much faster.

I would seriously look into picking up a new cord on amazon. Check your wattage for your Kindle, you should be able to get a new amazon basics brand cord or other name brand cord for $5-10. That is a lot less than a new kindle. [:)] if you aren't sure what you need amp wise customer service can help.
