BenevolentM -> How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 1:01:41 AM)

If you were the Command in Chief, how would you take down ISIL?

BenevolentM -> RE: How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 1:17:28 AM)

I would begin with a massive surveillance campaign aimed at collecting the photographs of every person including every mode of transportation in the region and tracking their/its whereabouts. If we are unable to do that, then develop the technology to enable us to do it. As Command in Chief I would want to know if a person leaves their home in the morning at what time do they leave? What is their mode of transportation? If it is an automobile, what is its license plate number? The government knows this sort of information about every American citizen except perhaps what time we might leave to go to work in the morning. Why does it seem likely to me that the United States government doesn't possess such data on the citizens of those countries it has invaded?

is this ironie?

The first step may be to launch a geosynchronous spy satellite over the region.

Geosynchronous satellites have the advantage of remaining permanently in the same area of the sky, as viewed from a particular location on Earth, and so permanently within view of a given ground station.

We pay a lot of money to so-called experts, yet some how I doubt that straight forward measures such as this have been done even under the cloak of secrecy. I doubt anyone in our government is bright enough to envision such a thing.

Build lots of automated floating spy platforms, i.e. blimps, that communicate with the satellite.

Instead of making it secret, make it public. As a means to test the system and its capacity to keep tabs on everyone report criminal activity that is occurring within the region to the authorities or populace, think leaflets, within the region. The temptation to lynch the criminals would likely be great. It will make it safer to walk their streets which would help us win the hearts and minds of those living in the region and would drive the leaders of ISIL mad. This could be a recruiting tool for ISIL, but we would know who they are. Their criminal records could be used to keep them from obtaining passports for example. A large percentage of the criminals will likely belong to the ISIL movement.

You believe in Sharia law? How may we, the United States, be of assistance? Let us help you through our surveillance program to reach your goals.

The goal of course would be to give them a nice mind fuck.

There is yet another tactic I would employ. I would have people study the problem as a social disease. When we gave grandma a cavity search we were admitting as a nation that we had not a clue as to how this disease spreads. So the expert concocted politically correct litmus tests, if the person mentions the word constitution, check their temperature, they may be infected.

Yes, yet another irony.

ISIL is just a nuisance, a bag of wasps wreaking havoc, but a bag nonetheless. We don't need to "defeat" ISIL, because there's nothing to defeat. Throw another few trillion dollars into conquering territory in Iraq? It's been pretty popular in the past few decades, but the ideology of extreme sunni sharia law can't be bombed out of existence. ISIL doesn't pose a threat to our nation, only to western interests in the area, which sucks, but we're not going to go start trying to "kill them all", bush style. They'll either solidify their gains and ingratiate themselves in the lands they have, or the movement will peter out when the muslims get bored and convert to judaism. Let's remember guys, WW2 was the civil war of the west, and we're still enjoying the geopolitical and economic advantages of having a pristine country of factories churning out cheverolets and selling them to places who were recently bombed to oblivion. Nukes, aircraft carriers, air supremacy, and guided missiles are the true bastions of western society, bastions that will always trump terror.

Why would that be a good thing? When you are not thinking strategically, you make mistakes. The problem is they have been thinking strategically. We need to start thinking strategically.

Surely, we could invest a few billion for the sadistic pleasure of it.

Since they are attempting to set up a government, their government would feel totally out of control, then the mistakes will cum.

BenevolentM -> RE: How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 3:12:01 AM)

There is reason to believe that governments are inherently control obsessed.

Yes, yet another irony.

The irony is if you go looking for a disease in an uninfected population, you won't find it.

BenevolentM -> RE: How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 3:35:35 AM)

And you will learn little to nothing about the disease.

Ah, yes.

Hi hilypo!

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know if you have a "local bar" you go to regularly, but in most locals bars, you'll find a group of regulars, one of which is usually a crazy dude who sits on his own, babbling nonsense, living for the moment some poor victim gets sucked into a conversation with him.

Ah... I see you've met Benevolent....

BenevolentM -> RE: How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 4:19:35 AM)

What you want to report are instances where someone stole a sheep for example.

BenevolentM -> RE: How would you take down ISIL? (9/21/2014 4:20:56 AM)

What is the likelihood that such information would not be acted upon?
