Most of what you can use are ordinary household items. That's how we got started as a couple. There are some things that can't or shouldn't be improvised, such as insertables.*
You can get a kiddie pair of (unlockable) steel handcuffs. Scarf for cleave gag. Bathrobe belts for ties, although I don't know what works for self-bondage best.
(Don't use your good neckties, just giveaways.)
