I have been highly suspect of our media for some time, and when you look at such stories as "journalists" being paid by the government to push things like No Child Left Behind, it starts to become apparent how much we cannot trust everything we read or watch

Hey. I am fully aware of what you describe. Why I deserved your snotty tone I cannot fathom.

My point is that you make the leap from one deplorable incident to damning everything that you read from the media. That is not justified.

We have the freest media in history. Without a doubt, without question. We have not only newspapers, but books, political magazines, all-news networks, Air America, talk radio, the internet. We live in a great time of media - tremendous discussion and debate.

I don't trust everything I read. But I do trust that we live in a free and rambunctious media age - and that is good for us all. Ignoring the media in total, as your comment implied, is not justified.

There was no "tone" to my words. They are just words with question marks, the rest is your interpretation of them.... and I feel very justified in all I know about the media to view them with suspicion

"Just words, with question marks". They are more than that. They are meant to communicate. If I read something into your tone that wasn't there, then I apologize. But - I do think a fair reading of your question is that you were pounding someone for ignorance (unfortunately, you were wrong as it pertains to me). Let me ask you directly - what was the purpose of your response to me? What point were the questions designed to make?

Just wondering.

And your attitude towards the media is selective. Admit it - some things you believe, others you dismiss. You have no direct knowledge of the No Child Left Behind scandal, just what you read in the media. You don't ignore it all - not by a long shot.

I view all corporate media the same.

Well, there isn't any non-corporate media (read Bagdikian)... so from where are you getting your news 'facts'?
