Back in Business
Dear Ones ---
Today I did something I hadn’t done since June: I worked.
I reported for duty at 11:30 and met with the powers-that-be about our plan/expectations for the next month. We sorted out that I’ll work each afternoon after the joys of my hyperbaric treatment. This is a different strategy from radiation, when I worked most of the day, then departed for Georgetown. I’m hoping the new approach will let me work when my brain is peppier (than in the morning) and also allow me to linger if I’ve hit stride with a project. It also means I won’t spend my work hours fretting about the dread cylindrical chamber.
After the meeting, I caught up with assorted colleagues, whose movingly warm welcomes rang touchingly true. Next I paid my respects at the dive across the street. And then it was time to roll up my proverbial sleeves. I excavated my desk and marveled at how many pages of my one-a-day Downton Abbey calendar there were to tear off. I’d last seen it on June 20th. At first, it felt a bit odd to be back, but two things made me feel like I’d never left. I rolled my eyes (inwardly) at various outcroppings of editorial cluelessness, and I snarled at my computer when it hid a file I’d just saved. DCnovice was in the house. [:)]
It was good to be home.
