80s fairly reasonable...for diagnostics....

I charge between 50 and 200 depending on how annoying the customer is.... and thats just the diagnostics, not the repair.

Most places will charge a diagnostic fee, and would normally be applied to the repair. If you do not get a repair, then they will still charge the full diagnostic fee.

If you can get the laptop fixed, great, if not, buy the new one which will be less than the one you were using, but will be better than nothing.

it was to fix it and at best buy . but that price could be higher depending on ecactly was wrong. they saidi t sounded like a hardware issue from what i was saying.

I missed the sales price:( its now 399 at sears n 428 at frys, but I may find something I like even better by then. if it cant be fixxed I'mn ot leaping right away. i want to make a smart choice.

Ok, I found 7 places 3 of which do free diagnostic work, some of these places specialize in repair mallware and virusre moval for one price, so if something iis funking up the workns ad our virus and malware progs aint catching itte, hy may know of it.and I will call them in themo rning.

Ditto on the dislike for Windows 8.

The Fry's in this area has Windows 7 Home for $95 (stock #8043244) and Windows 7 Professional for $129 (stock #8043284).
Both can also be purchased online.

Windows 8 - Microsoft taking the windows out of their operating system. Why call it windows when the "apps" take exclusive control of your display to function? No more windowing multiple applications at once if one is an "app".

Have you considered replacing the hard drive yourself and reloading your operating system? Please tell me you did make the set of recovery discs when you originally got the laptop.

I'm actually curious (dubious actually) about any core that's classified under the "Pentium" moniker, which was effectively tossed 15 years ago.

That sounds a bit odd to me but....I did a search on it and, indeed there are new devices being sold with that (apparent) chip.

(Still seems a bit odd....kind of like "and the new models have the latest thing; tailfins!!!!)
