The dr took a blood test to see if her liver and kidney can handle the meds, and if all is clear, she will take meds for her arthritus.

Things that can help:

Aspirin (not tylenol, not motrin, not advil, old school aspirin - the only combination anitpyretic, anti-nflammagory, and analgesic) if your system tolerates it
Glucosamine chondroitin - helps with joint lubrication
Elavil - normally for depression but one side effect is to damp down the effects of nerve impingement... those muscle spasms you get when the arthritis "catches"

Exercise to increase mobility
Water aerobics
Tai Chi

Before listening to Merc, note that he's assuming "she" is a person. If she is a dog, cat, horse, etc., each species reacts differently to different drugs (i.e., what's safe in humans is not necessarily safe in pets, and dosage is critical).

Though the T'ai Chi could be interesting.

If she is a person...don't take meds on top of the prescription ones.

Glucosamine chondroitin, though, is helpful, and safe.

Glucosamine is interesting, It's main natural derivative is from shells of shellfish so can mostly be consumed in tablet form. If you are an athlete, stagnant most of the day or just plain getting older (over 25) I recommend trying to take a minimum daily dose. It helps stop cartilage from deteriorating. I was told I would get arthritis when I was 15 and so far, apart from once in a blue cramping from gripping weights too tightly, I'm fine at 32. I did have aches and pains once I hit over 25 but believe it or not, working out helped alleviate all of those, they're gone.
Sorry for jacking ya thread there. It's literally one of those rare days when I have nothing going on.

Glucosamine chondroitin, and he is hopeful that will help keep her feeling good for a good whole.

I wouldn't try a tricyclic like elavil on a dog personally.
You might want to get her a ramp to get in and out of the car if she usually goes for rides.

She gets in ok, with a little help, she puts her front half in, then we gently hoist her back half, it's getting out where I agree a ramp would be great.shewas just leaping out, the back seat is very low to the ground. And i am just not very comfortable with her doing that maybe iam just an over anxious mommy.

It works on 70% of the human patients and almost 100% of animals because they digest the fatty acid better than people. The book is truly free as in no email spam or contact info needed to download the ebook.

Try giving her Green Lip Mussel capsules if you can get them over there. Her pain may get a little worse for a week or so but then she will improve in leaps and bounds and hopefully SHE will begin making leaps and bounds again.
I have used these caps on a couple of my dogs over the years (as well as myself) and I find they really work wonders.

She wasn't much for leaping and bounding outside of the car, but maybe she will start dancing for joywhen we get home again!

My bad... I did assume "she" was a person. No elavil or straight aspirin for canines.
And, for glucosamine you want to use the formulation for canines not humans... the filler in human glucosamine is often milk solids which can have adverse reactions in canines.

For the critters, I've found www.calvetsupply.com to be an economical source for canine analgesics and glucosamine. I still miss my dog, Willy. We fought arthritis together for several years then a stroke took him.
