I avoided responding on this thread for a while, cause I knew I was Gonna lay a Huge steaming Load of rants and links...but here ya go anyway quote:
ORIGINAL: Gauge The Last Circus - This film is a visual masterpiece, stunning in every way. are you talk'n bout this one...yeah,fucking awesome... if you want another dark comedy killer clown spoof, try stitches, fucking hilarious quote:
ORIGINAL: Gauge Silent Hill (2006) - This is a very creepy film. It was one of the only video game adaptations to the silver screen that worked well. If you liked the games, you will adore this movie. The town of Silent Hill was based on a real place called Centralia, Pennsylvania that has had an underground coal mine fire burning since 1962. Couldn't agree with you less. While it wasn't completely Horrible(I'd even say it was quiet good on its own merits I guess, but nothing special),it failed miserably to live up to the atmosphere of the original(especially the second movie).Maybe this is because it's a very challenging thing to make a movie(that is normally enjoyed by a room full of people)feel as alienating and isolated as the game(where most people play it alone in a poorly lit room, and the bond between audience and character is alot stronger without having to make any declarations of character or having to pull on any heart strings ),And while Americans love gore and violence,it's hard to write a script that encapsulates that kind of surreal subtleties that would be palatable to the average "Merican" movie go'r..We like them things straight forward and simple...or very fancy and refined, not much between shall meet.. I'd compare the silent hill movie to video game as I would compare the American made game sequels to the original, they miss the point, they focus too much on the boogie man,and they explain too much to the audience. The unknown is inherently creepy, leave it that way.The movies just felt like a fan wank to me As far as video game movies, hmm,Pirates of the Caribbean was pretty close to being a film adaptation of Monkey Island lol(the deathrace remake was an attempt to make twisted metal into a movie if you ask me) quote:
ORIGINAL: DaddySatyr [color=#660099 "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly ", "A Fistful of Dollars ", and "For a Few Dollars More What,no Once upon a time in the west, that was my favorite Spaghetti westerns rule, but never forget spaghetti sci-fi, Flash Gordon(Queen did the sound track...nuff said) and Barbarella (oh,and check out Flesh Gordon if you ever can find it) Oh,and Don't forget the Rice Westerns, The Good, the bad and the weird, and Sukiyaki Western Django While definently not as timeless as the movies they pay homage to,they are loads of fun quote:
ORIGINAL: DarkSteven Rat Race. A redo of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. People try to race through preposterous silly gags to get a fortune. alot of the Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World was filmed out in my neck of the woods. The spot where they lifted Ethel Merman upside down to shake the keys outta her cleavage was the exact same spot where a hollywood video was built. When I pointed this out to the employs of hollywood video, none of them knew what Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World was,or who Ethel Merman was...sigh.... As far as must see movies...gawd,how do I pick Well it depends on what yer look'n to see, for some good horror pics You wanna see a recent vamp movie that doesn't suck, how bout 30 Days of Night, the vampires don't sparkle, they don't have internal struggles with the affliction, they just wanna tear out yer throat and drink that sweet sweet red nectar right outta yer pulsing veins. How bout Rare Exports, you'll never look at Santa Clause the same way again you want something a lil more humorous with yer gore, how bout some of Peter Jackson's early work. Before he was the tasteful film maker we know and love now,he made movies of a different...taste...and budget.Dead Alive gives Army of Darkness a run for it's money...erm...a run for its loose change...and Meet the Feebles gives ya a glimpse of what the Muppets would look like in real life you want some simple uplifting stories bout love, life, and the human spirit Black Cat White Cat...An interwoven tale of Romani Families,Serbian Crime lords, and young love...and "Musika" Castaway on the Moon...A Korean becomes stranded on a desert Island that's under an over pass when he tries to commit suicide...he finds a reason to live and strength ect. Great Crime Movies(cause deep down,we all wanna be bad) Snatch And Lock stock and two smoking barrels, not gonna bother putting up links, but these two are great King of NewYork. Pulp fiction and reservoir dogs, again,no link,if you haven't heard of it,then yer probably still under a rock Clock Work Orange..Really,get out from under that rock already Ichi The Killer.A tale of a masochistic yakuza muscle trying to find his missing boss...get the unrated version, trust me Movies that you should watch,if you have the ... for them Fire on the Plains,Great movie about the Japanese invasion of the Philippines during WWII(as told from the Japanese perspective)Warning...Incredibly Depressing. El Topo. The visuals are stunning, and I mean stunning, but the pacing, acting, and story were written by extremely high hippies who were Art school devotes..it's more bearable then most Warhol films, but not by much Desperate Living,Don't watch if you have any sort of taste what so ever, extremely offensive...what I'm trying to say is that it's a john waters masterpiece Koyaanisqatsi. A movie for cinematography nuts.No script or story, just pretty pictures with pretty music.... Gummo, one of those movies that just makes you uneasy, you don't know if yer watching a documentary or a movie...great directing and editing And Now,Movies that Pyro's Pics for the best movies ever made.... The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,a personal childhood favorite of mine,Visually distinct, simple story, great directing...Brazil and Fear and loathing are good too,but nothing is as stupendously awesome as the Baron Blade Runner(directors cut,no need to sweet'n the ending).Timeless masterpiece of cinematography and story telling. Dr. Strangelove.I was soo heartbroken many years ago when I couldn't find a copy of this in any of my local video rental establishments,it's a fucking classic.Great Social Satire and film making rolled into one big ball of awesome. Taxi Driver. Again, great Cinematography meets great story telling, with some real strong performances on the part of the actors Requiem for a Dream, again,Great Cinematography meets great story telling, with some real strong performances on the part of the actors...See a pattern? Ran,If you see one Akira Kurosawa movie, make it Ran.It's Kurosawa's take on the story of Mad King Lear,as set in feudal Japan Some Other quick mentions Monty Pythons Life of Brian and the Meaning of Life..While not as "quotable" as holy grail, each is stronger then the Holy Grail in my opinion.Life of Brian for it's social commentary and Meaning of Life for some of it's truly brilliant sketches Jack Ass Two.Yes,you read that correctly,Jack Ass Two.The first one was mostly fill and the third was kind of just slapped together, but number 2 is truly entertaining..Bon Appetite the Original Star Wars trilogy.they're actually really well put together..shame the new ones suck soooo hard The Fall,it allmost made the top list for visuals alone.well crafted story too 5th element, good simple enjoyable fun. Tokyo Gore Police, not "good"but wildly entertaining..Along the same lines as Big Man Japan The Fearless Vampire Killers(aka, pardon me,but your teeth are in my neck)Great comedy vamp spoof, who cares if Polanski was a creeper, his movies are still great The Watchmen,I love the portrayal of hero's with the flaws that they might actually have if they were real.Mystery Men is good too Zardoz and the original Death Race 2000 if you can get over the cheese factor Cementary Man,Great zombie romance comedy flick...yeah,a zombcomrom Chocolate,A thia action beat'm up(thia movies have the best stunts)bout an autistic girl who masters her fighting style from watching Bruce Lee movies.Great acrobatics and general story, but like many thia action movies,it suffers from horrible pacing and lots of down time... Ip Man,while not as impressive as Chocolate or Ong Bak,ect. It has alot better pacing...oh,on that same note,if you like Ong Bak 1 and 2,skip 3..it's horrible District 13,A french action movie, which has recently been remade in "Merica"(brick mansions or something like that, haven't seen the American one yet,but it's an easy thing to duplicate,so I doubt they could have fucked it up).Like the transporter,it's a flimsy story to set a bunch of spectacular stunts around, but it far surpasses transporter in both. Dark City And City of Lost Children, both are visually similar, but that is not to say they are not unique...Dunno,I'm a sucker for dark and dank gritty city scapes, guess it's the exoticness of it lol Oh,and a Question,I was wondering if any of ya have seen "The Congress"?I read the book(the futurelogical Congress is one of my favorite books of all time),so I know that it has little in common with the original source(the book deals with people in the future taking massive amounts of psychoactive drugs in place of emotions, and is about a male astronaut ect.)but it looks interesting non the less .. it also looks like it was animated by the same fellow who did triplets of Bellevue and the Illusionist, both of which I adore...
