From days gone by:

The Seven Samurai (the original from 1954 - great work by Akira Kurosawa, stars Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura.
The Magnificent Seven (a 1960 Western remake of the Seven Samurai stars Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, James Coburn, Eli Wallach, Brad Dexter and Horst Buchholz - directed by John Sturges)
In he Realm of the Senses - very powerful, and based on a true story

Lots of more recent favs already listed.

As a movie fanatic, there is no way to list all the must sees.

However in the horror genre, where I prefer psychological horror, a must see is the original The Vanishing. It has sub titles and wow is it worth it.

Stanley Kubrick told the director that it was the most horrifying film he had ever seen.

And not a drop of blood is spilled.

Hmmm...John Wayne films: McLuntock and The Quiet Man. Maureen O'Hara in both. He takes charge of her in both. She is...Ahhhh...in both.

War movies: The Great Escape. Steve McQueen trying to jump that damn fence on his motorcycle. The Lafayette Escadrille. Great WWI flick about the fliers.

I love the "fight in the mud" scene and the scene where he spanks Maureen (lucky man), then tells her " now get your divorce", then hands the spanking shovel to his future son-in-law and tells him "keep it...you'll need it".
