PiggyPuta -> TPE vs APE (7/12/2006 11:58:24 AM)

im sure this has been discussed before so please forgive me if this is repeat question.  could S/someone please explain the difference between TPE (total power exchange) and APE (absolute power exchange).

You might as well have asked what's the difference between a submissive and a slave.  There are no hard and fast rules that explain the differenct between TPE and APE and any answer you get is going to be 100% subjective and open to vast amounts interpretation depending on whom you ask.

At first I thought this thread might be a joke because APE is increasingly being referred to as 'Another Pointless Expression.'

Never mind.  I've had a really brain-frying week at work.

Lordandmaster -> RE: TPE vs APE (7/12/2006 1:04:56 PM)

The first one begins with a T and the second one with an A?

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

PlayfulOne -> RE: TPE vs APE (7/12/2006 2:33:33 PM)

uhmmmmm,   does it matter?  Isn't that just semantics?

i did not think there was a difference, but was looking at a profile and saw APE mentioned so was wondering if there possibly was a difference.

I think you might find it a simple case of that particular profile trying to present himself at a higher level to the mainstream - which generally achieves the opposite impression....

Many can't grasp the concept of Power Exchange in a context where Dom and sub have equal and complimenting power relative to the other's wants and needs.  TPE, to me, does mean a higher level where the entire relationship has a dynamic of Master and slave roles, not just when playing.

I've never actually heard of APE before your post and my D/s experience is now measured in decades....  So I tend to think my opening sentence is close to the mark.  It may be just some elitist "dick-measuring" term someone thought up for all I know but all it does is confuse communication if the "language" isn't universal.  But I also don't get out much in the BDSM community anymore, either.... lol

Focus.

I agree , one begins with a T the other an A. It alls depends on your semantics!

skaterboy -> RE: TPE vs APE (7/12/2006 6:09:59 PM)

I thought TPE  was temporary power exchange
and APE....was the
top of my family tree...........Silly Ass Me!

but then again, I've been called worse.

Total and Absolute...are one in the same...just different dialects from different circles...if you must know.       Winks and Drinks!

He probably just put it in there so that when he acts like a Neanderthal his ass is covered. [;)]

PiggyPuta -> RE: TPE vs APE (7/12/2006 6:43:25 PM)

thank You Sir...this makes the most sense.  i agree with You, Sir.  this would present a negative impression on me.  i tend to believe that maybe this Dom is just trying to boster Himself.

Thinks that this is so true.

nephandi -> RE: TPE vs APE (7/13/2006 5:15:20 AM)

Just the same as the difference between a mage and a sorcerer, just different names for the same thing, it basicaly means a relationship where one surenders all his or her personal power to the other.
