I was wondering how many Dominants/Masters would be ok with their sub/slave starting a running a business. Would you feel that this is something that would interfere with her service? Are subs/slaves encouraged to generate streams of income to prepare for retirement, or to eventually free their time up for full time service?

DarkSteven -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/19/2014 10:57:04 PM)

I try to be open minded, but I would have an issue with any Dom/me that did not allow for their s type to support herself or himself if the Dom/me passed away.

If the D type was so wealthy that the s type would be taken care of, okay. But otherwise, I would not want my sub to be helpless if I passed.

In my opinion a sub/slave starting and running a business is an amazing idea. Pushing a sub/slave to exceed her own expectations and perceived abilities (in EVERY area of her life) is (again, in my opinion) the job of a Dom/Master.

As for it interfering with service - in a dynamic with me, should my sub/slave start such a venture, I would simple modify my schedule to allow her to flourish in her business life; leaving her off time to devote to service.

The end result is my guidance + her initiative = her success = happiness = more enthusiasm during our time together.

So awesome DS. I totally agree with you, however I have to say, most extremely A type men I have met in my life are very, very big on their wives being total and complete dependents. It is just another form of "control". Many men I have encountered in the business world were just not comfortable with a woman disagreeing with them, much less being a "colleague". They are great with you as a spouse, but not a business partner. I wonder if part of that comes from insecurity. There is a video (comedy but partly serious) about the "perfect woman", one of them was "be smart, but not smartER".
Fair question OP, and my answer to you is to not let go of who you are fundamentally or your personal goals for a relationship that may or may not work. You'll be happier to find a D like DS who is secure enough to allow you to pursue your dream, and even better, support your pursuits.

Ive started businesses while owned in the past, in those cases the guys used it as an excuse to steal from me, or say anything I earned was theirs so I quit trying to work while owned. Might start again since my current has been given the chance to take money from me and refused. He wants me to find something to dip my feet into again. But is happy with whatever I decide, stay home slavey, his little apprentice, or hustle my way back into making what I used to. I'm sure he has an end goal but he hasn't dropped hints yet so I'll keep going as is until I see something that draws me in. Most doms I've come across nowadays expect the bottom to pay half the expenses as if they are equal partners so for that they would need to be working full time... which I think is ludicrous, I would never again work while in service except in cases where I got to keep everything I earned.

Wow! That is so interesting because my experience has been so completely opposite I have to tell you. I agree with you, you're happy, he's happy, that's what counts, do what you will and what works best for you both. The thing is he gave you the choice though and that level of comfort. I find it hard to swallow when someone demands that you work or not work. I like earning my own money, I don't care if my would-be husband is a millionaire, if his dealbreaker is my desire to WORK? I literally get in freakout, run away mode, lol. It's too controlling and I hate being a dependent with a passion, also it makes me wonder the reasoning why. I have never had anyone steal from me though I have had the "you get to drive the porsche, what more do you need?" types. I avoid them, why would they insist on dependency? The motive is my worry.

Wow @DerangedUnit I am sorry to hear that. I might still be a little too feisty for something like that to go down lol. Especially since I have a family that I need to provide for. My last Dom suggested that I be a call girl if I wanted my own business. Needless to say, he is nothing more than a fond memory.
My next relationship will be one where my Dominant/Master respects my intelligence and drive and sees it as asset to him, and not a threat.

Thank you all for your candid responses. It's much appreciated!!!

DerangedUnit -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/20/2014 12:03:18 AM)

I think it was because my father was a con artist and you know the old saying... I tend to stay away from rich guys because everyone I've ever known had the same personality. Dealing with their mood swings was a full time job but I'd want to work just to get away ha I was with the same guy last year and left to work 18 hour days for 6 months, I burned myself and came back. Now I'm trying to balance more.

Yeah once I no longer had a baby sister to support I didnt take as many risks. Having people that trust in you to protect them makes things harder. Back then I made choices to protect her and it usually sucked for me lol but I raised a halfway normal human so mission accomplished.

Speaking only for myself, I would be totally ok with a sub woman who ran her own business. I have a strong preference for women who are outgoing and successful in whatever domain is important to them.

shiftyw -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/20/2014 6:00:46 AM)

I am the main breadwinner and have been in almost all my relationships.
Currently we are bedroom only, but in past relationships even then I held a job, and made more than them.

It was an issue in my TPE relationship, and was a huge part of the reason that relationship ended, but he was an idiot and I shouldn't have stayed as long as I did.

A Dominant, confident in their dominance, will always want you to do more, be more, and encourage you to grow. Only a loser would want you to be less than. A loser cannot abide anyone that is or preceived as "better than themselves". We are often over run with free ranged cluless that think being a Dominant M or F, is all about you doing and being everything they want you to be... fuck toy, cook and clean, garden gnome, etc. A strong and good Dominant is a good leader, navigating their life and guiding you through it with them. Should you have the beautiful Yin/Yang energetic D/s energy along with that good leadership, you have something special.

Even and especially in 24/7 TPE, your growth and well being should be the primary focus. When not in use, you shouldn't be bound up and in the closet, you should be "serving Him/Her" by becoming more than you were. At no point do I imply you are or were insignificant, but He/She should lead you in the direction that makes your dynamic better. IF He/She has a business and you have an aptitude for numbers, it makes more sense to put you in a program that will alllow you to handle the books. If you have your own business (per your OP) and He/She can see where a marketing course could benefit your business, then you will be guided that way, or if He/She finds it more opropriate He/She may take a marketing course themselves. Again, 24/7 TPE does not keep you in the box to be taken at and used on the whim, TPE removes all doubt of whom you belong, and offers the security of knowing that as your life with Him/Her moves foreward you will be guided in a direction most beneficial for your Dynamic.

Jus sayin

Way back when, that was the way things were. The man worked and the woman stayed home. In some upper class circles, that's still considered desirable, for the man to demonstrate that his income alone suffices.

That bothers me. Not wanting to be sexist, but I've found that men and women tend to see things and approach things differently. I'd hate a place that relied upon groupthink and conformity and squelched different viewpoints.

IrishMist -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/20/2014 4:05:38 PM)

I work. I don't run my business, but I have been doing what I do for more than 20yrs. Out of the 12 months in the year, I am gone probably, on average, 9 out of those twelve.
His concern is not with me being gone so much, but rather with the type of work I do. He knows it tears pieces out of me with each job I have to do.
He also knows that the minute he starts making noises about me stopping, is the day I end things.

Just because a person puts themselves into service to another, does not make them exempt from taking care of themselves. And that includes financially.

DesFIP -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/20/2014 6:52:57 PM)

With that said, small business owners commonly work well above 12 hours a day. Which doesn't leave much time for sleep, let along keeping a relationship strong.

DerangedUnit -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (10/20/2014 7:05:33 PM)

Yep my other half works 16 hour days most of the time and when I used to I dont remember ever sleeping lol thats what energy drinks are for

You're kidding, right? Who would want a dull, uninspired, stagnant girl at home?

Nurture and grow. Applaud and celebrate her.

RogueleBeau -> RE: Accomplished Submissives (11/13/2014 5:32:55 AM)

I'm glad to read all these responses. I'm very new and this really helps me in keeping my identity. We're bedroom only. And it's a big clash with my day to day life right now (I'm in charge!). Though I feel this all will settle. I believe any Dom (or person, really) should want another human being to be the best they can be. Develop, learn, and grow.
