Sanity -> Russel Wilson - "Not Black Enough"? (10/23/2014 10:23:34 AM)

After interviewing several Seahawks players some reporters may have figured out the Seahawks' problem

Reportedly, Russel Wilson isn't "black enough"

Part of the reason Percvy Harvin had to go, and a major ingredient in the heavy funk thats weighing the team down

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Sports/2014/10/23/Seahawks-Players-Question-Russell-Wilson

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/seahawks-dont-think-russell-wilson-is-black-enough/ar-BBaEpvP

I imagine Carroll will get this sorted out as far as the team goes, but what about the rest of the nation.

Some reporters? Looks like it's just one reporter, Mike Freeman.

Naw. The Sea Ducks are just doing all of us on the Pacific Northwest a favor and giving us something to complain about other than the weather.

Im not sure what question sanity is asking here ?
Are you actually asking whether the rest of the nation feels Russel is black enough ?
Or are you asking our opinion on whether or not we all feel Pete Carroll will get the locker room in sync ?
What is the purpose of your post sanity ?

Do his threads ever have a purpose Mike, except for trolling ?

There is an institutionalized/expected behavior surrounding the behavior of blacks and half blacks enforced by other blacks and half blacks. Stepping outside of this behavior can get you labeled "not black enough" or "acting white" with sometimes rather serious repercussions.

This type of thinking maybe causing a morale and unit cohesion problem on the team.

(I am guessing at the problem since I do not follow sports.)

I don't know if in this case the report is true but i can assure you people have been killed in my area for that exact reason. So it could at least be serious if true.

All the players interviewed today about this have said it's bullshit. Bleacher Reports has about as much credibility as the Weekly World News.

kdsub -> RE: Russel Wilson - "Not Black Enough"? (10/23/2014 6:04:08 PM)

I would not expect anything less than a denial.. would you? I mean who will come out and say they are racists? But I am not trying to add credibility to the report other than to say IF true it is serious. I doubt we will ever know and it is pretty low on my give a shit list anyway.

I seem to remember some questioning whether Obama was black enough.

I understand the issue Aylee....what I didn't,and still don't ,understand is sanity's purpose in bringing this here to these boards.

Open a dialogue on race since we have all been branded cowards that won't talk about it?

littleladybug -> RE: Russel Wilson - "Not Black Enough"? (10/24/2014 8:20:28 AM)

To say that this played any meaningful part in Percy Harvin's ouster is to really not have a clue.

At the end of the day, Harvin has a diva mentality (to put it mildly) without the production to back it up. Pulling himself out of games, reports of physical altercations with teammates...general bad attitude. Any team worth its salt doesn't want anything to do with someone like this. To make this a "race issue" is offensive to every black, white and brown person who actually takes their job seriously and doesn't have an attitude of entitlement.

Add to that some serious salary cap issues that could come up next year, with the re-working of Wilson's contract, and this decision was a no-brainer.

Attitude of entitlement, isn't that newspeak for "acting white"? I am pretty sure it is.

Maybe not so much in the sports world; moreso in the political arena.

How so?

Frankly, I'm at a loss with how this correlation has even come up.

First off, in speaking about the "sports world", which is what this thread is ostensibly about....my use of the term "entitlement" comes from my own lexicon, not from some news article. As a sports fan, I am THRILLED to see someone like Russell Wilson, or any other figure, who actually seems to "get it". Black, white, brown, purple, plaid...someone who has a remote concept of personal responsibility and does not feel like the world owes them something because of their God given talent. Gee, I don't know...part of me wonders about the issues of the college players who, of all things, get into trouble with shoplifting from grocery stores. And then I remember....these are people who are used to getting bailed out. Because they can throw a ball, or receive a pass, they get a "pass". Sorry, doesn't work for me.

Second, in terms of the "political arena"...seriously? "Entitlement" is the equivalent of "acting white"? Please, explain that to me.
