I have to go for a cleaning every 3 months, and i just went and th ey said your pockets are so deep in th back you need a deep cleaning. The back are 5centimeters .It's 700 wi th out the lazer treatment and 900 with it. When i said i do not want the lazer treatment she says well Chris, it's what is really going to help your periodontal disease, and with out it the cleaning won't be much good.

They also said i made payment promises i didn't make. But that's another grumble for another time.

Well, i am skeptical so i asked one dentist office and she said we don't use lazer therapy, because we havent found it allthat beneficial, and another will give me a free consultation a free x rays. So im going with that.

When i called to cancle my appointment i told the office Iwas getting a second opi ion becuse iwas uncomfy with how they kept pushing lazer she said nobody is pushing it you can say no. But everytime i DO say no its a big push bout why i need the lazer. And then i said but i do want toget mi paste, and can you tell me the name of the mouth wash i wam supposed to get? She saisd no, i can't tell you off hand because I'd have to ask the Dentist , i don't know the name of it. I said it's not writtinen down in my chart? She said no it's not. She wouldnt even bother to look.

I think she was miffed.

Anyway, Anyone know if this lazer thingie is something their dental office's push

Edited to add, and according to a discusion with friends, i should be going to a periodontal disease dentist not your average dental, an my office never said anything.

You probably don't need to see a periodontal specialist unless the gum disease is very advanced. Yours sounds like a mild case.
My regular dentist manually did the same "deep cleaning" for me some years back and it was completely successful.
No lasers, just lots of manual probing and scraping.

Sounds to me like your dentist decided to invest in a new cleaning machine that utilizes a laser and he now needs to generate a revenue stream to pay for the machine.

If it were me, I would go to one of the other dentists you mentioned that would do an old-fashioned manual cleaning.
Kind of uncomfortable, but not really painful.

I have bone loss, and my teeth are extremely sensitive to cold and even though they use numbing gel and they have to stop and apply it four times , it's still almost excruciatingly painful on some teeth. I also cant tolerate the sucker thingie they hook on the corner of your mouth. That cold air is pure torture. I get a very painful electric shock zinging sensation that makes me jerk. Of course with a deep cleaning they will use novacain, so pains not an issue for that, but i maysee if i can find other options for the light cleaning cuz the oral numbibg gels aint cutting it. Plus ibwas so sensitive theycouldnt use their machine, they had to hand tool scrape all the teeth.
I had a free consult wi th a periodontal and he said that there has been no studiessaying lazer therapy really was nessesary.

No. I commented that it's to bad that the machines not capable of putting out warm water and she agreed. It's not so much the water, thoug that's not nice, so much as the spit suction thing , not the one with the small little mouth an you close your mouth on it, th e big open tube one. I am to sensitive and can't tolerate it. Nor their machine thingie. The scraping has to be done by hand with one of those hook looking things.

And that i do not nEed a deep cleaning. He said i am doing a good job brushing , and flossing. He said I have bone loss, yes but it's very, very mild and only on 3 teeth. He says I have no large colonies of bacteria . My mouth is healthy. I asked him why are my teeth sosensitive then, and hesaid well some people have sensitive teeth, and you may have some nevers exposed. I have no clue why the Smile Dr told me i had gum disease and deep pockets, and needed a deep cleaning.

But what ever, i am happy to hear i am doing a good job.

I can't tell you the names, as I don't know what names they are marketed under in the US, but there is toothpaste that does a good job in helping to reduce the sensitivity of teeth. On the offchance the name is the same: in Germany one is called Sensodyne.

I used it for mon th s, it didn't help, at all but the smile dr dentist prescribed prescription strength and we'll see!

And someone suggested a water pik, so between those two things hopefully the sensitivity will lessen.

I use the Colgate sensitive and whiting paste without flossing (I have a few teeth taken out due to cavities) because my teeth are crooked and I can't afford the high price stuff. I cannot stand cold stuff neither. I am about to start saving for complete removal of my teeth and getting dentures.
