I'm almost done with the project I'm working in Ontario. I'm deciding what to take back with me for gift baskets for some relatives. Anyone have suggestions on items from Canada that would not be found in the U.S.?

So far:
Maple Syrup - yeah, stereotypical but in Mississippi you cannot find it at all. jut imitation maple flavored yuck.
Coffee Crisp candy bars
Flakey Pastie
Digestives - trust me, most yanks have no clue what they are.
Some decent tea.
And, just because it pushed my weirdness button... bacon marmelade.

Well, maple syrup is common here, but it's awesome, so absolutely.

The rest of your list seems odd/vague.

About maple syrup, don't buy the light amber. Get the grade B cooking syrup, much more intense flavor if not so pretty in a glass bottle.

Really? 10 grand?

I've been caught with "no nos" coming across the border, and have known other people who have as well. Never a fine levied. But then again, it's all about attitude (or lack thereof) [;)]

Moose or deer hide mitts with or without beadwork

Not entirely Canadian, but definitely found in Canada...

mukluks (wore them as a kid...waaaaaaay better than boots...warmer too)
Inukshuk statuette (I have one made out of granite with "CANADA" inscribed at the base...very small, but it makes me smile)


If past t.v. commercials are true, (haven't seen one in eons though since I don't live in Canada anymore), Red Rose tea.

To add to Bear's suggestion, you could also go with a Hudson's Bay blankie...from the Hudson's Bay store...now owned by a yankee. :(

I actually have a recipe from King Arthur I've been meaning to try...perhaps that is this weekends project.
