First step might be as the bumper sticker says, "Stopping Animal Cruelty, One Meal At A Time."
I do parrot rescue and am constantly embarrassed by the disconnect from sane persuasion shown by PETA. Work with realists, not those more interested in headlines than actually saving animals or bettering their lives.

Just maybe someone wants to be active with people whom she can be candid about all her enthusiasms? I live in a number of separate non-overlapping social circles. None of these get the other areas in the slightest. As someone said to the effect, "Worse than being by yourself, is to be surrounded by strangers."

Which is why it's been recommended that she looks for these kinds of things not in a forum devoted to discussing submission, but in the appropriate place. I'd suggest volunteering at her nearest animal shelter, myself. Not just talking about it but doing things about it.
