Interesting interview with one of the authors of a new
paper published in Cell Metabolism on Science Friday

Mice gained weight or not depending on when they were fed.
The hours of feeding in relation to the time they were usually active.
Same food, different weight gain, interesting.

Of course there are all sorts of variables and mice are not people;
but the interview is still interesting as it raises issues concerning
the gut microbiome and other factors.

I have heard of this diet, just eating within 8 hours a day is good enough to lose weight, you can eat whatever you want. But it's just not possible for me, unless I skip dinner.

But it is a solution for those who can skip one meal.

I also believed it works, as there was one point of my life where I was religiously skipping dinner, so my breakfast and lunch falls under the 8 hours, and I did shrink. I didn't eat anything healthy throughout that 8 hours window.

And I could continue to work out as hard as I always did, as really, within the 8 hours window, I can eat all I want, so I get the energy to work out.

But lately, I am always feeling hungry in the night, so can't do this 8 hour window thingy anymore. I mean for this diet to work, there needs to be serious commitment to not consuming any calories outside this 8 hours thing.

Some 30 years ago I started a diet (don't remember how I ran across it) where I was essentially eating the entire day's food within a 5-hour window. The diet dictated that I eat a full breakfast (whatever I wanted and as much of it as I wanted), an average lunch (usually a sandwich, chips or fries, and a drink), and then nothing until breakfast the following morning.

The express purpose of the diet was to invert one's normal eating schedule, i.e., most people eat a light (or no) breakfast, average lunch, and then a big dinner at the end of the day. The diet's theory was that by inverting the intake schedule, a person then had the entire day to burn off the big breakfast. and most of the day to burn off lunch. It did work because I lost a significant amount of weight and I loved that there were no food choice or portion restrictions and no exercise. I did go to bed with an empty stomach and woke up ravenous each morning.

I think it solely works because skipping one meal really makes a huge difference, it cuts off 1/3 of the calories.

Technically, it should be an easy diet to follow, I should start it again, and try going to bed hungry, that's not gonna kill me or make me ill, as long as I have all the whole good food for breakfast and lunch.

Oh..., I just remembered why this is difficult now, because I skate long distances in the night, my body would be craving for energy refuel, unless I give up doing sports at night.

If you listen to the interview it did NOT work
because one group had less food intake.
It was not anything that simplistic.

The two groups of mice consumed the same calorie load.

That is one of the things that make it interesting

The director at the gym I go to said a great rule of thumb is to not eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. If you go to bed at 11 pm, don't eat after 8 pm. Eat your first meal of the day within 30 minutes of getting up. Don't have a bit of science to back this up ...

Very, very unspecific and unclear as to the exact conditions of the experiment and terrible commentary...especially on the microbiome and what the practical difference was as defined.

One is well advised to read this study rather than rely upon this audio.

I have heard more than one person tell me that no matter how big your meals and at 3 a day, if you do not eat after 5 pm...you will loose weight.

You are when you eat. Hmmm... So if I eat a late dinner, does that mean I'm-

SHIT!

Guys, I think I'm preggers.
