A short while ago, I was broadsided by a sub topping from the bottom and then pulling a disappearing act.I asked the Mistresses here for their viewpoints and got some of the best advice,I've ever been given as Domme-"be true to yourself". It is interesting how the obvious can be empowering when you hear it at the right time and in the right place and of course from the right people.It is now a mantra for me in my BDSM life.
So what's the best advice that you have ever been given on this forum?

While will listen to advice, I am more apt to follow my heart and instincts but the advice that you got was a pretty good one.

Gosh there's been alot of good information floating around on the boards so give me a second to think about that one, but I would have to say a good tip I got was from a post on wax play. I think LA Posted it about using oil first on the skin before applying the wax, it certainly was helpful in getting the wax off.
The best advice award however has to be go with your gut instincts. Mine have never steered me wrong and hearing others say it just made it even more golden.

Probably for me it was learning to flog. I had no idea how to actually do it until I went to a Domme. She showed me the proper way to do this without injuring someone. She also showed me how to make it erotic to where they want more.
It really stepped up my confidence as a Domme.

Another piece of advice that has helped Me I heard from another Domme several years ago, though it was not on this forum. I modified it somewhat as a result of experience.

She told me about Her "three chance" rule. If She made plans with a submissive, and they cancelled the plans three consecutive times (assuming that they told Her in advance and had what sounded like a reasonably legitimate reason), she took it as a sign that the relationship was not meant to be, and moved on.

Over the years, I have shortened it to a "two chance" rule. If I make plans with a submissive, they can cancel out once with a good reason. The second time they cancel out, I take it as a sign of ambivalence, or that they are not ready, let it go, and move on. I started out with the "three chance" rule, but found that when submissives cancelled out two times, almost invariably they would go on to do it a third time. Naturally, if they were to "no-show" for a first meeting without any advance warning or a REALLY good excuse, they'd be out immediately without even a second chance.

This applies only to initial meetings. Once a relationship and trust have been established, it is understandable that things could come up over a period of time, and that's different.

I am amazed when I read some of the stories of submissives being given unlimited chances. I have heard of submissives "no-showing" three or four times, and the Domme continuing to give them another chance. I also know of a Domme who has had a particular submissive cancel out on Her at least a dozen times, yet She leaves the door open for him. When it gets to this point, I feel the Domme bears some of the responsibility for allowing this to continure to happen.

Anyway, this has been a good guideline that has served Me well. I've heard it through the grapevine that a few of the submissives I cut off after two excuses went on to string other Dommes along for months, because if they are allowed to do so, they will.

Well, it wasn't related to BDSM really, but the best advice I ever got was "Draw what you see, not what you think you know" It has applications all over the place because it reminds me to actually take a step back and see what's really there instead of what I am used to seeing or want to see. It reminds me also to look every time as though I am looking the first time-that helps to keep things new and interesting and believe me, something different will be seen every time.
