UPDATE: Elizabeth Warren threatens to shut down The Government
Funny how things change...other than the fact that Me. Warren was a media hero when she spoke about shutdowns last year and is one this year, even though she was behind this one.

http://m.theweek.com/speedreads/index/273577/speedreads-elizabeth-warren-in-2013-government-shutdown-is-anarchy-elizabeth-warren-in-2014-shut-down-the-government

When is a shutdown not a shutdown? As Noah pointed out at great length last night, the answer is when Democrats do it. This applies not only to their fellow progressives, but to most of the media as well. (But I repeat myself.) It’s never a shutdown for them, but a principled stand to prevent Republican robbery, murder, mayhem or whatever. But a new twist was put on this theme when Elizabeth Warren addressed the current budget turmoil.

amazing that she is pissed off about wall street having their arses covered at the expense of joe public, yet again, and you prate a word salad of what one person thinks she has done. The government is not shut down
to suggest otherwise is shit mongering.
When she causes 24 billion dollars worth of shut down, you might have a point.
There have been cries since november of shutting down the govmnt by repubs , why arent you mad at them....oh yeah....
never mind

btw its not justs dems
Johnson noted in particular the populist nature of Warren’s appeal: By Thursday, the opponents of the Dodd-Frank repeal measure included Louisiana Republican David Vitter. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Vice Chairman Thomas Hoenig, also a Republican, issued a statement Wednesday also warning against the provision.
yawwwwwwwwwwn

I didn't say the government is shut down.

What I'm pointing out is the hypocrisy, Lucy. She was soooo worried over the children...the elderly...the disenfranchised...who'd be put in danger by a government shutdown. Does she not think those same people would be in danger if she had managed to shut it down?

Lucylastic -> RE: Urgent: Oct 3, 2013: E. Warren rips the GOP "EXTREMISTS" for Government Shutdown!! (12/12/2014 4:09:45 PM)

Aaah so shes not supposed to worry about what keeping the provision will mean to those poor, elderly, disenfranchised, people she gives a shit for. Its ok to give the banks more rope to hang themselves with and use taxpayer money to provide for their continual clusterfucks..
how many people in the senate or congress have threatened to shut it down??? where was your finger pointing then?
Talk about hypocrisy
Do you support the banks and wall street? you are comfortable with the same people that caused the last depression given back the same powers they had to cause another one because they couldnt bank on the sun rising in the morning?

Ahhhh...so she's "principled" for threatening to shut the government down over one provision, even though those same people would be hurt by the shutdown, whereas when the GOP threatened it over one provision, they were "extremists".

Before you cast the stone of hypocrisy...I don't believe I had returned to the boards last year when the shutdown threats were going on but if you can find a post made by me in support of a shutdown of the government...Or against...bring it.

Even here, I am not saying I am for or against it. I AM pointing out a potential presidential candidates hypocrisy.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Urgent: Oct 3, 2013: E. Warren rips the GOP "EXTREMISTS" for Government Shutdown!! (12/12/2014 5:10:22 PM)

From what I've seen, Warren IS NOT threatening a shut down - she is simply calling bullshit on the Radicals' attempts to force their extremist agenda through on a must-have legislation. Sad to say, it looks like Obama has cast aside his last shred of credibility and revealed himself as a DINO. Honestly, since Hillary is shaping up as being 'Obama light', Warren may be the best bet we have for a return to true Progressive political principles in DC. It only goes to prove that the American people are incapable of self government.

NO of course you arent saying you are against it or for it.
LOL
You are hurt because a dem dares to use her voice to point out what is blatantly wrong with this particular bill and has backing from the other side of the aisle.

the government was shut down last year, not threatened, not hinted at...AND Cost 27 billion, while many many others ON THE RIGHT have since threatened shut downs over not liking parts of various bills. Oh say the immigration clusterfuck, and the

Where is your denigration of those people.
oh no hypocrisy there, at all
The Bill passed 215-209, it was a tight vote and how many repubs went against it because it wasnt conservative enough.

the claim came from hot air....certainly bending the facts as usual

My denigration of those people is probably where yours is when one of yours gets caught being a hypocrite.

Bending the facts?

This article makes it clear that it was Ms. Warren who was pushing her fellow libs to withhold their support of the Omnibus bill. Though, since it is liberal media, it would therefore have been the Republicans' fault for not letting the Dems pull a provision they don't like. you havent answered ONE of my questions
witholding support is not even close to being a government shut down.

The difference here, as noted in the OP, was that Warren likened Republicans shutting down government as calling for anarchy. But, this year, she talked like she was going to shut down government.

Well, she still blamed the GOP (as noted in the HotAir article) for threatening to shut government down, but it was still her desire to not let the legislation pass because of one particular measure. She rallied other Democrats to oppose it. The Washington Examiner article mentioned that the measure "previously had substantial popularity among Democrats," and that many of those Democrat supporters were either silent or changing their votes. The House passed legislation, with some support from Democrats (57 votes) and some Republicans in opposition (67 votes). Without those 57 Democrat votes, the legislation wouldn't have passed, so it was a bipartsan bill.

It is entirely possible to point out hypocrisy in one party without also mentioning it in the other party. If the idea was that only one party is ever hypocritical, that would be wrong, and should be refuted. But, the OP was about Sen. Warren's hypocrisy.

And, you played right into it.

(Good to see you back on the boards, though. [:D])

If the bill doesn't pass the Senate, there will be no funding for government, which is what some people might call shutting down government.

Let me just I say I 100% do not understand you AT ALL. I cannot, IN ANY WAY, wrap my mind around your position.

WHY WOULD ANY COMMON MAN IN THE USA support the two Republican riders on this spending bill to:

(1) Roll back regulation of the Dodd-Frank Act to allow banks to use their customers’ federally guaranteed deposits to buy credit default swaps. Also other investments with impossible names that we learned to hate during the Wall Street bailout. Most of the language in the section came directly from Citigroup.

(2) The second rider allows rich people to make up to $1.5 million in campaign contributions every two-year election cycle. Or $3 million if they happen to be a married couple. Republican leaders suggested this was necessary in order to provide $12.6 million for pediatric cancer research.

My hero, Senator Elizabeth Warren asked:

"Who does Congress work for?" Warren asked, speaking on the Senate floor Wednesday, as she urged House Democrats to vote against the bill. "Does it work for the millionaires, the billionaires, the giant companies with their armies of lobbyists and lawyers? Or does it work for all of us?"

Why would any normal person support items #1 and #2?

Music Mystery asked Sanity, "What's the Republican's next move?" Well, now we've seen it.

She's running for President. She isn't going to win, but she'll be a thorn in Hilary's side in the primaries.

Bottom line - those parties exist and flourish because the voters are too confused or apathetic to stand up and refuse to buy their candidates. Look at the turnout in the last election, and how most of them voted against their own best interests, and tell me with a straight face that we are capable of self-government.

Thanks for defining our "best interests" for us.

Ben Franklin was quoted as saying: "When the people find they can vote themselves money, the republic wall fall"

Kind of the same idea.

My only concern is the fact that our government (No matter which "side" is in charge) continues to spend money like a drunken sailor on liberty call. They have no regard for how it's going to get paid for (other than printing more worthless money, every month).

Franklin is one attribution of a comment like that. Alexander Tytler was another version. The version I used is attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville.

The Democrats are worse, imo, at "bribing" voters, but it's not just their M.O.
