ThirdWheelWanted -> Patriotic Fake with a Conscience (12/15/2014 6:53:02 PM)

Ok, I think I've officially seen everything. We were talking with someone for a bit. Seemed nice, maybe her story seemed a bit off, but nothing blatantly so. Her profile said she lived in GA, so I mentioned that I lived there fora few years when I was in the Army and stationed at Ft Stewart. The next message I get is:

"Thank you for your service. I cannot meet and do not want to lead you on sorry ".

I didn't get it at first, and asked for clarification. I got this:

"I have lied and do not want to lie to you anymore since you are soldier.I need to show respect to you."

I was floored. While I'm annoyed at having my time wasted, that may have been the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me just because I was a soldier.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Assuming that wasn't a lie also. Probably 'she' is a guy and would have flaked out eventually anyway.

Oh I assume "she" would have flaked. I just appreciated the abrupt end to the nonsense. Rather then a long, drawn out conversation that went no where, there was a clean break.

Well, it's always nice to get some semblance of closure, which isn't always possible. I wonder what sort of lies this gal had told you both. Seeing that you're in PA and she's in GA, had the subject of flying to meet come up? A hint on being financially strapped and needing relocation expenses, that sort of thing? Sounds as though you hadn't reached the stage of cam-verifying yourselves yet.

Just wonderin'--no need to answer. It's evident she wasn't who she portrayed herself to be and would have otherwise strung you both along. I would give her the benefit of the doubt that her respect for our armed forces and/or military veterans won out (in her own family history or tradition) and that it was her conscience speaking.
