An example anyway. A St Louis County Police Chief of Charlack Mo was convicted of Thief of more than $35,000 HERE. He received a sentence of 120 days probation and a fine of $20,562... less than he stole. Now I know most blacks in the area as saying, and rightly, if he were black he would be heading to prison tonight. This is an example of the true racism in the St. Louis area... not the police. Here is another Police Chief in the area whose crime was not as severe and he received a year in prison... the difference... He is black...even the white public sees this difference in treatment and do not approve... So I believe we have more problems in racism in our courts... not the public or police. One judge at least can be voted out... I hope African Americans register and pay attention to racist Judges. Butch

Hence the greater sentence, one he plead to, so it makes me wonder what else he was being charged with to take the plea deal. The first guy has another case against him in FL which may be part of the reason they did the sentencing the way that they did.

I was in PetSmart the other day(the dog was being treated,thats another story)I noticed a dam big display for Martha's pet line......she seems to have bounced back lol. Of course she is ,afterall,white [8\|]

I used these examples because they were in the news... But...There are blacks that have been caught shoplifting items worth a few dollars that have received prison terms. Now the reasons for disparity in sentences may be the ability to hire good lawyers rather than racism but with the same unequal result. To minorities I can see where it is racism either way. I am not for letting anyone off for crime but the punishment should equal. Butch

The system is certainly rigged,and yes socioeconomics plays a bigger part than outsized racism.....but the lack of ability to hire a good lawyer which has much to do with negative results ,fails to fully address the sentencing aspects.

Noble’s original sentencing judge considered the 13 and a third-year sentence egregious and imposed a sentence of five years of hard labor. But the Orleans Parish District Attorney wasn’t satisfied with this punishment and appealed the sentence. Ultimately, the district attorney sought and obtained a prison term of close to triple the sentence imposed by the original sentencing judge. “Thirteen years in prison for two joints is obscene,” said Daniel Abrahamson, director of the Office of Legal Affairs for the Drug Policy Alliance and a lead author of the brief. “The punishment is so far out of proportion to the conduct that we really can’t call it ‘punishment’ – it is more like torture.” While Noble has two prior low-level nonviolent drug offenses that occurred 8 and 20 years respectively before his arrest in this case, he has never been convicted of anything more serious than possession of drugs for personal use. That's obscene..... I'm not proud of it but in my youth I indulged in some illegal activities.....I sold to finance my own use. I was arrested on a number of occasions,some of which led to charges involving intent to distribute.....it never even crossed my mind that I was in danger of going to jail.After all their were lawyers and diversion programs that I knew I could avail myself of. I'm white....going to jail just wasn't going to happen.....fortunately for me that in fact proved to be the case.....I am white,I knew I didn't belong in jail [8\|]

Thanks GM....i really ,really did not mean to offend or make light of a disgusting fact. It's always stuck with me meeting a young black man in Sheriff Job's jail in east rutherford New Jersey(I has been apprehended trying to see to the pharmaceutical needs of Deadheads at a concert in the Meadowlands)I had been arrested on a saturday and was awaiting my court appearance on Monday...an appearance that I knew would lead to bail and leaving Sheriff Job's hospitality behind...anyway I met this young black man who had been there awhile and would sit for a few months more till his court date.The charge was GTA....his bail was 1,000 dollars....and there he sat. At the time,it struck me as odd, I thought the distinction was that this young black man had no one who cared enough to raise a pittance,a mere one thousand dollars to bring him home. I now know it probably wasn't a lack of care nor love...it was the lack of money keeping him sitting there. No 1,000 sitting around,no property in which to secure the services of a bail bondsman. So while I was just passing through....he was calling Sheriff Jobs little place home for over a year....for a joy ride. I went home and figured out how to pay my lawyer....he sat and hoped the sentence when he finally saw the judge was time served...and the prison record that went with it. Further depressing his prospects

Mike I have a daughter addicted to heroin...before I understood the depth of her addiction to drugs I helped her out. I, like a lot on these boards, saw no problem with marijuana... boy was i wrong. She was driving drunk...high on heroin and pot when she lost control of her car and tore the oil pan off on a center medium. Thank heavens she did not kill herself and some innocent. The police found pot in her car and it was over the limit for personal use as well as being drunk. I didn't know it but she was dealing to pay for her heroin. She was charged for DUI and having over the limit pot... I'm not sure what they called the charge. All I know is $650 bail... $2,600 lawyer fees...and the charges were changed to a $1,000 fine for littering. Money makes ALL the difference...I had it... used it...and made a big mistake. I go right along with the African American protests over the courts... if they had thrown her butt in jail then it may have made a difference in her long term future...which are dim now. But all the City wanted was money. Butch

I thank god every day that I came out the other end of my own drug use in time to be a parent to my child....I know it sounded like I was making light of drug use....but I wasn't . Much pain was accrued before I saw the light......though I still see a difference between pot and other drugs. I'm sure there are many others who wish their child hadn't been allowed to skate on some piddling charge...only to see the issue get worse....luckily for me that wasn't my lifes path None of which changes the meme of white privilege.
