This little thing got me to thinking about how judgmental some of us can be. Gonna think on it a bit, but wanted to throw it out there for others also.

I have been exposed to many new ladies in my day-to-day activities due to going back to school. It's amazing how a statement like: "I'm really surprised to see such a mature attitude about (Something innocuous like manipulation of the people through mass media) in a young lady that's only eighteen or nineteen" is met with the idea that a comparison was meant to be made.

However, more to the point; putting down all ladies just to "beef up" the self esteem of the lady one is with tells me that the one is dealing with a lady that has some deeper insecurity issues.

I mean: there's more than one beautiful lady on the face of the entire planet. My thinking that Nikki Minaj is beautiful doesn't negate the beauty of the lady to whom I'm saying it.

FR: Going to play devil's advocate for a minute. While the aforementioned quote might be a supportive statement of sisterhood to make to a man, I wonder how many women that might believe it have also turned around and said something like this to a man:

So many men are (inserting some I've heard)like boys...selfish...wimps...jerks...assholes...cheaters...but not you.

Now then, if I was to make a unified brotherhood statement similar to the sisterhood statement, would I be doing the right thing? Maybe...but the statement wouldn't be right. Some men ARE cheaters...jerks...assholes...little boys...cheaters...wimps...selfish. They may diminish the gender as a whole but a woman making a statement recognizing that it is some, not all, does not diminish me.

But by saying that the only reason you could be considered a good guy is because you don't cheat isn't any kind of compliment in my book. Just not doing negative things isn't enough. You need to be actively positive. And it's when those positive things are pointed out and praised that someone truly compliments you.

But I'm not saying that. And I would imagine, to those who've had it happen to them more than once, it is a good thing to find a man who doesn't.

If the best thing you can say about someone is that he doesn't cheat, then you need to up your game.

Besides, if you repeatedly pick partners who do cheat, that says more about you than them.

I see CreativeDominant's point. I know I've said similar things - not about cheating, but about other standards that Awareness has for himself that other men in my life have not met. But I don't take that to be an insult. I think an insult would be something more person-specific. If he were to tell me that the woman over there is not as pretty as I am, that would be an insult to her. But if he were to tell me that he really likes long hair and so many women don't keep their hair long, that's not an insult.

I would never say something like that quote to him anyway. It actually makes me laugh out loud to imagine me telling him what to do (or not do).

sometimes the compliment you give means that it goes against other people. my ex playmate had a special talent that no other guy had ever had with me. I don't really know if that insults the other guys I've been with, or it just highlights how good he was at what he was doing with me. I told him that no-one had ever been able to do what he'd done before. The fact is that I had a lot of firsts with him that no other man stood a chance of getting from me, and it was simply due to how he was with me.

he used to say that he didn't make comparisons. that's just bollox though. we all make instant comparisons as it's our nature to do it. we instantly know whether one person is better at a certain thing, feels better than another, or whatever. just as we know what food we prefer over another, drink, clothes, type of people, and so on.
