If I understand you correctly, and please correct me if I am wrong, but you are asking about people using generic primary photos on their profile..

It doesn't bother me, but most people use them here due to the fact that pictures on this site are easily lifted to be used by others... and others just don't want to put a pic until they make a connection with someone and send it privately.. to each their own

Plus....using a cartoon or artistic image....

<========= like this.....

....also can give people a small hint of your personality and other interests. A lot of guys have pics of their motorcycles and cars....telling you that they like to ride a motorcycle. That way if you really hate motorcycles, you can pass them over.

Me....I try to always have a sense of humor about things and I like people who have a good sense of humor. I think it's important that people don't take their lives too seriously.

Being "honest and upfront about ourselves and this lifestyle" doesn't mean we are required to post every detail and picture about ourselves and our lives out there for random strangers to see/use. In my opinion, my personal information/pictures can be shared with those with whom I form a connection. If someone has a policy of "no profile pic/no conversation" I'm fine with that because if you just don't get my point of view then you just don't; neither of us is losing anything by accepting that fact and just moving on before we waste our time.

If they're using the cartoons in lieu of actual photos, I do assume that it's kind of a cop-out. If they use cartoons in addition to photos, it's just sharing something about themselves.

Honest and upfront? Absolutely not. Many people try to hide their faces because they don't want to be outed in the vanilla world. Some people are cheating and trying to keep a low profile.

And there are some, especially on the other site which AFAIK does not have a limit on the number of pics that can be posted on a profile, that have three pictures of themselves and a gazillion cartoons and pics of nekkid wimmins from the Internet. Some of those pics have a strong political bent. I just find those annoying.

Some people, for one reason or the other, cannot or should not be outed as kinky. SinFix summed it up here nicely:

A good friend of mine had her pictures lifted from this site, admittedly she was quite gorgeous and her pics drew much attention to the site that appropriated them, but much to her chagrin, her face plastered all over the web as wank fodder is not good for her international business (yes, international business, she supplies the world). Her saving grace is in her pic she was in heavy fantasy makeup so she can chuckle it off as a weird coincidence, but they are out there forever.

And some of us just don't want our pictures on a site like this one. It isn't (necessarily) a copout, not everyone is as open as you are. Kudos to you Steven but don't judge what you don't know.

I think folks include what they want and like in their profile… it is their right to be as open or closed as they please… no one is making anyone look at a profile. Of course what photos… cartoons…or anything else they do post will most likely say more about them than their written words.

If on a boring day I glance through the browse photos section the cartoons usually attract my attention more than anything else… I do like a good sexy sense of humor…and sometimes the cartoon imagery is more stimulating and certainly more beautiful than real life.

Exactly. In my case, I'm thinking about my kids. Should they have friends in the future that stumble onto this site, I don't want them recognizing me and knowing details about me I wouldn't share with them normally. It isn't necessary in my circumstance. Since I'm here for friends only, one doesn't need to know what I look like. If I felt close to someone and they were curious, why not. Someone else in search of a partner may have the same concerns in regards to their kids.

I am looking - sort of lol. Regardless I've learned to be very cautious so while I'll happily share pictures with someone who I'm going to meet offline there's no way I'll be putting pictures of me on this site. IMO it's too risky.

I wouldn't dream of putting my face on this site. Me and the gaping anus photos that sometimes greet us when we log in?! Not. And while some may regard this stance as a cop-out, I for one sometimes think people who post their faces on such sites just have nothing to lose.

While I think that yes some have nothing to lose a lot of people don't realize how easy pictures posted here are to find and pass on the interwebz in general.

Im out, to my husband, to my kids, to my family at large, Ive been part of community events over the years,. Im not worried about them finding out, but there are some ugly ugly people here who will use your pics as fodder to attack, stalk and threaten, or make it about your looks, size, background, just to be dicks(yes luckily it only shows their prejudices and ugliness). Been there more times than I care to mention.
Im not looking for a partner, I dont give a shit what people think of me my age, my size or my proclivities, but Im not putting myself up for more ugliness just to please someones idiot opinion of me.
I have pics on FL.
This is where I come to chat. You need pics of me why?
Ask.... its simple

Yea, someone who stole my pics would have more to worry about than I would. I refuse to show my face on these sites because like spiritedsub, I opted out of the sex industry for a reason and the last thing I need is my face plastered in association with it. My body can belong to any fit, dark skinned lady. My face is uniquely mine alone.
Like all other parts of my life, I share it with people I trust. On the interwebz, if people likely google a pic of my face, the image they find would probably inaccurate anyway. That being said, two of my friends have seen me on here mostly due to name recognition (Manko), but both are mature enough to keep a secret . I respect most people in my circle and vice versa.

My profile photo is old and I don't think I look like that anymore, my avatar on this side was chosen simply because I liked it and identified with it.

I also don't post my pic because I don't want to scare everyone off..... (only half joking!)

But really....a long time ago I started to look a bit sideways at people who *insist* that you have you pic on you profile or else they won't even converse with you. I think that's kind of stupid because short of doing live webcam, there is no way of knowing that the pic someone has on their profile or sends to you is actually them.....and even if it is, like camille said, they may not look anything like that anymore. I know a guy on here whose profile pic is about 17 years old and he looks absolutely NOTHING like that anymore.

But this also brings up a major pet peeve I have. Nothing drives me CRAZIER then when I'm exchanging messages with a guy who also doesn't have a pic on his profile (which is fine with me) but then asks me to send a pic of myself to him, but doesn't send one of himself first.

I think that is VERY rude to ask someone for a picture without sending one of yourself first. That tells me that he just wants to size me up to see if I'm worth anymore of his time. If he wants to see a pic of me to see if I'm attractive and worth his time, then he goddamned better do the same thing for me and let me just as judgmental about him.

I've also noticed that the guys I have connected with quite nicely are the one who do just that.....send me a pic of themselves before asking me to do the same....or don't even ask me at all.

Back in 96 I was in a chat room and starting to get to know a chap who lived a few hundred miles from me, he was looking for a Mistress, I made the mistake of sending him a picture, I only heard from him once again. he thought he was smart to send me an email full of derogatory statements, about things that werent even shown in the pic.
I got off lucky. Ive always hated pictures of myself, now I have issues with my facial paralysis, but I got over the shy part, I just dont give a flying fart if someone thinks im ugly..
they have more problems than I do.

They don't bother me. I like cartoons that show a sense of humor and whimsy, but then I like that in a person, too.
