How about hating racism? Am I allowed to do that, or not?

you need to learn grasshopper. Hate only begats hate. Therefore your hating racism only causes racism to flourish. I don't have the answer though. Just it does no good to hate

Wow!! We live and learn. Racism is not flourishing because of racists and their vile hatreds, but because those who oppose it are somehow causing it to flourish.

It has nothing to do with ignorance or fear???? Or power hungry demagogues exploiting and fanning the flames of hate for their own advantage, which seems to be what Scalise was up to, (his denials notwithstanding)???? Does this vile moron really hold a ranking position in your Parliament? Isn't this a matter of serious concern to people?

So he apologised for something he didn't do.....and you are just accepting that whole ?

I believe that he said he did not recall ever speaking to the supremacist group but if he did it was unintentional and he was sorry about that.

Sounds like he was backtracking to me. Most people would know if they spoke to a white supremist group or not.

"If he did address the EURO group, he said, it was a mistake, because he would not have willingly agreed to speak to such a group. He only had one staff member at the time, who may have not been aware of what EURO was and its affiliation with Duke, Scalise said in the interview.
State Rep. Cameron Henry, who in 2002 was Scalise's campaign treasurer and aide, declined comment Wednesday. "
"Knight said he was not a member of EURO and did not arrange for any speakers at the 2002 conference, he said. He only booked and paid for the room as a favor to Duke, a personal friend whose campaigns he had worked on in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Duke, at the time, was living outside of the country in Moscow and addressed the conference remotely. "
[8|] So he booked and paid for the room and addressed them but has no affiliation. Sounds legit.

Just to keep things clear, Knight booked and paid for the conference room, even though he wasn't a member of EURO, as a favor to David Duke. Scalise is the one who is claiming to not have intentionally spoken at the conference.

5 Ways to know you're speaking to white supremacists
OMG was this article hilarious!!
There can't be any way Scalise didn't know who he was speaking to. I'm not going to say he's a white supremacist, but even if he was simply scraping the bottom of the barrel for every vote he could muster, it's a shame.
While there isn't anything illegal about speaking at a white supremacist convention, I sure do hope he does the honorable thing and steps down and fades into the background.
ETA: Just to be clear, the "hilarious" description of the article was praise for the way it was written.

But he did NOT speak a white supremacist convention.
http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/12/david_duke_adviser_kenny_knigh.html
So I think calling for his resignation because he spoke at a hotel that booked such a convention LATER is pretty screwed up.

It would be, if that article is to be believed. I'll even post a retraction if the truth of the matter is that he didn't speak at the EURO conference.

The article, however, sounds more like backtracking, and spin and damage control.

Scalise confirmed to the WaPo that he spoke at the conference, now regretting the decision.

Knight had Scalise speak to his civic association just because they were neighbors?!? Seriously?

    quote:

But a June 2002 EURO newsletter that included a synopsis of the event featured a small picture of Knight "addressing" the May 2002 EURO conference," according to a copy of the newsletter collected by the Anti-Defamation League. The newsletter didn't mention Scalise.

There are discrepancies between Knight's account of the 2002 event now and an earlier version reported by The Washington Post. In that story, Knight is quoted as saying he asked Scalise "to be the first speaker before the meeting kicked off."

He also is quoted saying: "Steve came in early on the first day of EURO, spoke for about 15 minutes, and he left."

Knight described the crowd as a "mixed" audience for Scalise, "people who are concerned about the survival of their race." He added: "The thing is, I don't think Scalise knew anything about EURO, about that latter group."

I'm sorry, Aylee, but I'm not buying this article.

Well, we don't actually have a Parliament, but he is the Majority Whip in the House of Representatives, chosen by his own party. Behind the Speaker of the House and the Majority Leader, he would be the the third highest ranking Republican.

I think it's a matter of concern to people, although I think it's probably more of an embarrassment to the Republicans in Congress at the moment. It seemed that this bit of info on his past slipped by them somehow. Even the media missed it; this was found out by an independent blogger. So much for investigative journalism and the process of vetting a political candidate.

I'm also a bit mystified by ChrchofDrk's contention that "hating racism causes racism to flourish." This doesn't even make sense, considering our nation's overall history in regards to race and racism. I'd like to think that we've progressed somewhat, but looking back to a time when racism really did flourish in this country, it wasn't because people hated it. Racism flourished because a lot of people back in the day thought it was "god's will," or our "manifest destiny."

I took ChrchofDrk's statement to be more about human psychology than about the nation's history.
I understood the point to be that openly hating any belief forces the holders of that belief to defend it and as a result the belief continues to exist, and might even strengthen.

Steve Scalise is an idiot. That he's the third most powerful Republican in Congress should....REALLY....scare any American. That this individual doesn't know how to use the smartphone that he uses on a daily basis to look up information is either a total liar or an example that 'some people should not be allowed out in public......EVER.'. I could find out if an organization that I'm about to give a speech to....might be.....or actually is a hate group:

The Southern Poverty Law Center

An organization that is dedicated to watching, observing, recording, and testifying on hate groups is but one of its notable behaviors. That email was around in 2002, even in the 'sticks' of his state, is not enough of an excuse. I lived in that part of the country for a few years in the late 1990's. I had access to email. So this idiot has.....NO EXCUSES. In fact, most of these individuals have a small crew of people that help with the person's tasks. He is going to say that not one of these people.....RESEARCHED.....the people, organization(s), and concepts.....BEFORE....he gave the speech? I call....

....BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

Hahaha. You trust an organization founded and run by a man whose step-daughter testified in court that he tried to molest her when she was seven years old. I love it.
