Okay, so I've been here for a few days, and I had an account here before. I'm just wondering has Collarspace always had this number of fakes and scammers? I've exchanged messages with half a dozen people over the last...I don't know, week or so, and it seems like every one of them is running some kind of 'I'll come to you if you pay XYZ$ for the gas money/plane ticket/elephant ride' hustle. Is this typical? Is it just a Collarspace thing? I'm smart enough not to fall for the fakes or send anybody money, but...is there a way to weed them out? It's getting a little frustrating.

It's honestly an everywhere thing, but yeah I've been around CM since '07 and its always been this way. Just gotta remain cautious when talking to people, read over there profiles to see if they sound reasonable and intelligent, ask for multiple pictures (maybe one with their screenname), and yeah you just gotta keep your eyes open. Or you could just meet people in your area which is fairly difficult if you live in a small town.

Yes, it's normal for a free site. Block the scammers and move on.

You can also click on the "Mail Controls" button in your inbox (top right corner) and set some filters. If you're searching for locals, you can set mail from distant people and international members to go straight to your Bulk Mail box.

Yup. And if you are wondering what the exact count of fakes and scammers are here, it's 42.

No one's ever mentioned this before.

Is there a way to weed them out? Make them talk to you first for some amount of time. I don't give out email or messenger IDs before talking to people for a while. If they can't hold a conversation before bringing up the kinky shit and moving because we're "MEANT2B TEH TRUE BDSMS" then they're not worth the effort. Works for me.

I know dc this post took me completely by surprise.

Really? I'm kinda surprised, considering the seeming amount of scammers.

Actually, if you do a quick forum search, you will find that your thread is the first one to point this out. /silliness

Delete, move on. Report if you feel so inclined.

I'm assuming you mean '...your thread isn't...', which means that these other...ahem...ladies and gentlemen were just being snarky for the sake of being snarky. So WTF did I do to you? I didn't see the mention, so sue me. No one said you had to come and read, or comment.

Well, if you knew the amount of threads that are started about fakes and phonies and scams, you would be a bit cynical too. You didn't do anything that hasn't been done 1000 times before.

As far as people commenting, people are going to comment on a public message board. The quality of their responses is a risk you must be willing to accept before you post. So, relax a little, have a Cokeā„¢ and a smile, and enjoy your time on the forums.

We started adding this to our profile a while ago, and it's dramatically cut down on the number of money scammers at least. Nothing you can do about the ones that just cat-fish to waste your time though.

We will not, under any circumstances, send you money. I'm sorry if you have: a sick relative, car trouble, need gas money, are going to be evicted, find yourself in Ghana even though your profile says the US, or your current Owner requires funds for your release. (Seriously, do people really fall for this?) I hate that this is necessary, but we have wasted entirely too much time with fakes and scammers. If you'd be traveling a great distance, we could provide a plane ticket, but that would be purchased in advance, on our end, and would be non-refundable and non-transferable. So no money would ever need to be in your hands.

Hope this helps.
