Is it just me or is the word "d.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e" considered a bad word on Collarspace?

Every time I type that word (without the periods, of course), it gets munged to "deive", whether I put it in my emails, my journal, or my profile.

Is it just me, or is d_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_v_e a deprecated word for you also on Collarspace?

Does "descriptive" work in your profile, journal, or collar email?
Would you kindly send me a collarspace email?
I'll send you one, which uses 'descriptive" (11 characters).

Thanks.

Descriptive.

Works for me.

I don't see it in your profile, or your journal, and not in any email (you didn't send me any).

Nope.
The word "descriptive" won't work in my journal, nor in my profile, nor even in collarspace email though.
Does it work in your journal?
Does it work in your profile?
Does it work in your collarspace mail?

Can you try prescriptive ?

You have odd problems.

I feel your pain.

When I type "descriptive" in a message it gets morphed into "deion". What does that even mean? [:D]

OP, you're referring to when you send a CS message. For some reason, the system won't transmit these on the profile side; forum side isn't affected when making posts:

script + any word containing script, such as descriptive or description, transcript/ion, prescription, etc. (removes "script" from text)

eval, as in evaluate, evaluating, evaluation, medieval (removes rest of sentence also)

< >, normal facing carrots + text contained within -- also unidirectional carrots <<<--- (you have to flip or reverse them, like this: > < )

I believe that "script" and "eval," along with carrots, are used in programming codes, so they are read as such. I haven't run across any other glitchy words or symbols yet like those above.

I suspect that it's because the word "script" is filtered out, as a rather clumsy way to prevent people embedding javascript into journal entries.

Hi Ms. Fiery,
Eureka! You've explained it!

I had been creating what I had considered off-the-cuff, yet still eloquently descriptive journal entries, when Miss Marie, gracing me with the benefit of the doubt, had questioned my unusual use of the word "deive".=== d.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e, and had asked if I knew something she didn't about word usage.

Turns out, I attempted to correct the faux pas three times (probably making a fool out of myself in the process), before I even realized that the word "descriptive" is, as you noted, deprecated in journal entries, profile text, and in collarspace mail messages.

Thanks for explaining why!
as always,
me

PS: Seems like a glitch where some programmer should be punished; perhaps we should spell out what is in store for him/her?

You do too, since it happens to all of us, it seems, based on Ms. Fiery's answer above. :)

I just put the correct spelling into my journal, and this came out ...

deive === d.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e
preive === p.r.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e
evaluate === e.v.a.l.u.a.t.e

Actually, I wasn't aware that this glitchiness affected profile text or journal entry content. I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference.

Well, we can't send the mob out on whoever was responsible for what crazyml aptly termed "filtering out" such language, since this was evidently done during CM days. I'm sure that programmer is long gone.[sm=club.gif]

Take a look at my topmost (newest) journal entry, and you'll see the results of a quick test:
Interestingly, the first two fail immediately, while the latter two fail during a post-processing step that Collarspace must run separately (or which was incurred during one of my edits to the journal entry).

quote:

deive === d.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e (typed without the periods)
preive === p.r.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e (typed without the periods)
=== e.v.a.u.a.t.e (typed without the periods)
<angle brackets> === > < (typed in the other direction)

It was embarrassing, to have a spelling mistake in my journal, since command of the English language is one skill I pride myself upon as serving well. What made it more so was that I had attempted to correct the faux pas three times, in subsequent emails to Miss Marie, who, was understanding, yet, my face reddened from the seemingly repeat offense. I always feel I should be punished if I don't correct my actions the very first time, so, I had felt especially blameworthy, having unknowingly repeated my mistake.

If ever a Domme needed an excuse to punish a sub, a spelling test utilizing these inadvertent morphemes would be a clever way to ensure the sub's repeatedly demeritorious behavior doesn't go unpunished! :)

Too bad. It would have been fun to organize a public whipping! :)

Collarspace journals don't like the word o.b.j.e.c.t.i.f.i.c.a.t.i.o.n. It gets shortened to ification. Dunno why, lol.

That's interesting, because I know I've used that word, as well as "sex object" and "objectified," in messages which transmitted intact. It would be strange, indeed, if this wasn't an across-the-board phenomenon on the profile side.

Btw, you can just alter the spelling instead of using periods or dashes. Script becomes scr!pt. Replace the "l" in eval with a capital "I." You could use a zero "0" instead of an "o" in object. (If you start your sentence with that word, it would appear to be a capital "O.")

[Edited for missing word!]

"Objectification" works fine in my journal entry of 1/18/13, so it must be something new.

Works in my journal entry test also ...
deive === d.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e (fails upon save)
preive === p.r.e.s.c.r.i.p.t.i.v.e (fails upon save)
=== e.v.a.u.a.t.e (fails apparently in post processing)
=== > < (angle brackets don't work when they're placed normally)
objectification === o.b.j.e.c.t.i.f.i.c.a.t.i.o.n (seems to work, unless it will fail a bit later when scripts are run on it)
