DerangedUnit -> RE: Have you ever lied or stretched the truth? (1/23/2015 11:01:18 PM)

My sister believed that she couldn't lie because everyone always saw through it.... I asked her to do an experiment with me. That we both go online and have a conversation with 10 people, the 10 in person. For the entire conversation she had to tell only lies, I had to tell only truth. And at the end we would compare their responses. She got a fiance out of that experiment. People always want to be sure of themselves, so when they encounter something they don't identify with they have to establish it as false, usually violently. The results of the experiment were her having pleasant conversations except for one. While mine only using the truth (not being rude) resulted in a lot of screaming... being called Hitler a couple of times, you know, the usual Internet bounty. I don't know why this is, but the only people I've known that allow themselves to doubt before making a statement with certainty, who prefer opinion, are those that have been in a situation where those accusing them held power over them. If a security guard believes you are lying it doesn't matter if you are or not because they will treat you like you are... so you learn to choose your position more cautiously than if you were on equal footing. It's no longer about truth, it's about what they believe to be truth. Any who that was longer than expected so I'll leave it there...
